IDLES is one of those groups where they could literally write a song about tampons and toenails and I’d enjoy the hell out of it. This is easily the groups more politically fueled album they’ve dropped thus far. In a year as controversial as 2020 they really dropped an album like Run the Jewels where it just suits the times so effortlessly.
Joy as an Act of Resistance admittedly is the better album, but there’s some really fantastic tracks and memorable moments on Ultra Mono like War, Grounds, and Model Village. There’s just maybe one or two tracks that lacked that Magic the preceding album had that this one does not.
