I think she’s going down the same path as Red Velvet’s Wendy and honestly, we’re tired of these Korean ballad mini albums.
But thank God, some of the b-sides are actually eating especially “Show.” It’s giving major Red Velvet vibes, like, am I the only one hearing Irene, Seulgi, Wendy and Joy here?
“PAPARAZZI ARRIVE” is the perfect revival of that 2nd generation girl group sound we’ve been missing in K-pop mixed with the nostalgic charm of early 2000s–2010s C-pop/Mandopop. It’s like the perfect blend of Jolin Tsai, SNSD, T-ara, and After School. And that phenomenal high note? We’ve missed that kind of moment since the old SM era, thank God A2O brought it back.
Thank you, Lee Soo-man, for not leaving the industry because we can finally enjoy the kind of musical quality we got used to with SM Entertainment. Honestly, ever since you left, the sound of SM groups took a major downfall.
When it comes to A2O’s first EP, it might be a little messy overall, but it’s bursting with potential. Some of the singles and especially the B-sides absolutely slap.
First off, the title track “Paparazzi Arrive” is the perfect revival of that 2nd ... read more
This is exactly what a marriage between Red Velvet and f(x) would give birth to and let’s not forget SNSD and S.E.S. whose presence you can feel all over this.
I’m genuinely so happy because, after years, it finally feels like we’re getting that authentic SM sound again. This is the essence of the signature sound that Lee Soo-man established, and I truly hope it becomes H2H’s defining brand.
If only aespa could get this level of production lately because honestly, the ... read more
This screams BEYONCÉ… I can totally picture it as a single from BEYONCÉ (the album).
ISTG this duo is the future of electropop, no question. In my opinion, they’re the most promising duo on the scene right now like, are we even hearing this next-level production?? I seriously hope they keep this level of artistry, because bitch, I’m fully obsessed. I’m out here shaking ass. First they gave us HOT PEOPLE MAKE HOT MUSIC, and now this?? Okay CHARLIXAG, go off.
I’ve been saying this since the day she dropped “Pop Girl.” That was the moment I realized we might be losing the pop-rap/trap/alt-R&B Lexie Liu I fell in love with.
Look I’m not against artists exploring new sounds or evolving their style to reach different audiences. Growth is natural. But the issue here lies in the execution. The whole thing just feels weak and painfully generic.
Like, yes girl, we get it you want to dive into an electropop / drum & bass ... read more
This is DIGICORE, ELECTROCLASH and INDIETRONICA EXCELLENCE.
I’m absolutely obsessed with the shift in musical direction on this EP. It feels like 2hollis but infused with an indie-rock edge. Literally it’s such a refreshing and bold fusion of electroclash, electropop, indie-rock, complextro and other influences.
And easily this is hands down one of the standout releases from the Korean scene this year. I genuinely hope Sion sticks with this sound in the future, because he has ... read more
With all the hype and that high rating, I went in expecting pure electropop excellence only to be blindsided. I’ll admit, there’s some real potential in the production, but the vocals? A complete disaster. Is she actually melody-deaf? It felt like my ears were being assaulted. It’s as if someone handed a kid an instrumental and said, “Go on, sing whatever comes to mind.”
People seriously need to stop hyping anything just because it carries an electropop vibe, ... read more
I honestly wasn’t expecting to enjoy this album as much as I did. I’m genuinely shocked. Man’s Best Friend really reminded me not to judge an artist’s music just because I never liked their sound before. This record actually gave me a good time. It’s not groundbreaking or phenomenal, but it’s definitely enjoyable and for me, it’s a clear step up from Short n’ Sweet.
That being said, I won’t overhype it because it doesn’t quite deserve ... read more
I honestly can’t express how much I enjoyed this EP. It’s pure electropop excellence from start to finish. It’s been a long time since a project in this genre clicked with me like this one did. The sound instantly brought me back to Charli XCX’s collaborations with A.G. Cook during that 2017–2020 period, and you can really hear that influence shine on “Hot Boys Make Hot Music.” It feels like a direct nod to that creative partnership in the best way ... read more
I have to start by saying this is hands down the most Red Velvet-coded solo album we’ve gotten from any member. I genuinely cannot put into words the ecstasy I felt while listening to it. It instantly brought back the magical feelings I experienced when I used to listen to Red Velvet during their 2015–2019 era. And through this album, one thing became crystal clear to me: Joy’s voice is the very essence of Red Velvet. At times, it felt like I was listening to all the members ... read more
Anyways, I don’t want to say too much about the album, but I’ll admit it’s mediocre compared to their older releases.
The main issue with this one, and I really wish they’d acknowledge it, is the mastering. The volume balancing and EQ adjustments were a mess, and you can notice it instantly once you put on headphones and listen to the whole thing. It made the listening experience painfully uncomfortable.
By this, I mean I probably would’ve enjoyed the album a ... read more
Recently, I discovered Oh Heejung’s old indie rock band, Beautiful Days, and instantly became obsessed with her voice. Naturally, I had to look up the members, and to my delight, I found out that she went solo and is still actively releasing music. The happiness I felt in that moment was beyond words.
I decided to start with her most recent EP, Forest & Horns, and unsurprisingly it did not disappoint. It completely met my expectations. This EP is pure art, showcasing top-notch ... read more
Honestly, I don’t want to say much, but one thing I’m certain about now is that Key’s musicality and overall sound took a drastic turn for the worse the moment he dropped his 2nd mini album, Good & Great. And it’s not just him, this seems to be the case for most SM artists whose sound and concepts have declined since Lee Soo-man and Yoo Young-jin’s departure from SM Entertainment.
Now, about Hunter: this is easily one of the weakest releases of the year. I ... read more
I’ve never really understood the hype around Amaarae, and Black Star just confirms it for me. If Fountain Baby was mediocre, this album is even more underwhelming. The songs feel painfully repetitive, lacking any real hook or spark, and we get it, she wants to give us electronic dance vibes, but it’s just not clicking. And honestly, she’s one of those artists where the autotune doesn’t enhance the music; it actually makes it grating and headache-inducing.
Sure, there ... read more
I have to say, this album is hands down the best indie rock album in the Korean music scene. It’s pure indie perfection, and completely skipless. Honestly, I can’t fully explain how I felt after listening to it. I went through so many emotions: euphoria, anger, sadness, confusion, shock, and nostalgia. Every feeling you can imagine hit me all at once.
This album really sets the standard for the genre, and I think it deserves way more recognition from indie, rock, and alt-indie ... read more
I’m always honest, so yeah I love BoA, that’s MOTHER. But this album? It was such a mess and so mediocre. The main issue is just… the songs. The quality. I literally didn’t enjoy any track on it. Not one made me feel hooked or thrilled enough to replay it again and again.
And let’s not forget the promotion and teaser which made me believe the title track was going to be something summerish, maybe a bit like NewJeans’ “Attention” kind of ... read more
