Love it when an album sounds like a journey and not just a playlist of songs. Genesis Owusu is a very distinct artist, who over years crafted his own sound. He comes back with another cool project, that doesn't necessarily sound too much like 'Struggler' (which I will review soon too as I liked it as well). Production sounds even more profound on this record on first glance. This is one of these must hear underground releases, one of the thousend UG albums that actually deserves ... read more
Drake used to be a good singer. Atp I don't really know if he still is. Sometimes Haunting, sometimes promising. The production on some of the first songs is really solid tho, I don't understand that part of the hate really.
But why is Sexy Redd on here again...Drake must have a beautiful dark twisted fantasy.
Another inconsistent Trap release this week. Seems like a pattern. The feature list is stacked but this isn't BNYX in his best field imo. Still solid tho, it has clear standouts and fun tracks.
People when they hear Lucki & Drake dropped the same day 🙂
People when they realize it isn't the 2010s anymore 🫩
He actually rhymed Iceman with Nice Man....
I won my bet ðŸ˜ðŸ™Œ
On a (very) serious note tho, here is two annoying type of people out there.
The Drake Hater: He hates everything Drake does. He wakes up the second the album drops, just to write hate comments. He retweets corny Drake lyrics, while being damn proud of rhyming 'hope' with 'cope' in his latest self produced underground song (obviously drumless). He is either not happy with his own life or just too deep into ... read more
Party and Drake team up for a Collab their fans wanted to see in years, right after the beef that had the Drake hate at an all time high. Firstly, I really like RnB Drake on many songs, but also sometimes it's just basic formulaic songs. The same can be said with this project, but it's overhated for sure. It's what you would expect mostly, with some dulls, but also some good very good moments. I genuinely hate when people call RnB music or anything that is out of their comfort ... read more
Mobb Deep is slowly evolving to one of my favorite rap groups of all time. I loved the Infamous, but this is another menacing and dark record. Sharp lyricsm, amazing beats and cold delivery.
JID & Baby Keem Collab Album goes hard.
May really feeding us good- we got Isiah Rashad, Kenny Mason and Action Bronson and we will also get Drake, Genesis Owosu, Rocky, Lucki, OG Keemo and more...
Rap Rock is often described as the forbidden technique- and Kenny Mason incorporates it very well. It's a really good and really fun album with some good song writing sprinkled in as well. I like the production, even if repetitive at times, and I really like Kenny as a rapper. He has a ... read more
For all the Dogs is Drake tapping back in his signature spacey trap Soul sound. You get some modem sounds and featured artists that were starting to get real popular when the album dropped. Drake, as he always does, incorporates these trends in his albums. That is because he still doesn't know where to go with his sound, as we since the late 2010, he can still make good songs and especially hits, but artistically there is no vision. Another uncohesive Drake record with multiple sounds and ... read more
Since 2017 Drake was on a decline. In my opinion without a good album. But that changes with the 21 Savage Collab.
For some weird reason they have some solid chemistry. The beats are nice, the rapping is the most consistent Drake did in years. 21 really helps him, contrasting and grounding Drake's more melodic delivery. However I don't think that the sound is as cohesive as it could have been, and I think 21 played out of his normal territory because Drake wouldn't fit it. I ... read more
I like this album.
Honestly.
I like that every beat nearly sounds the same, I like that Drake sounds so engaging and I really like the song writing.
Nevermind.
But actually it's not a bad album. It has its moments, it's not even that boring as Drake's vocals sounds pretty alright to good. The production on a lot of songs is top tier house influenced RnB and I say this while thinking all house sounds the same. Definitely another overhated Drake project where he actually tried ... read more
CLB is better than it's title and his cover, which doesn't mean a lot.
CLB doesn't take any risks, it doesn't try something new, it doesn't reinvent Drake and it doesn't even really have a reason to exist as a own project. Again on CLB Drake proves that he needs a lot of different features artists to make his project interesting as he himself seemingly just can't do it anymore.
While there are definitely some solid songs on here, you get some of the worst ... read more
Reasonable Doubts is something many people have about the whole legacy of Jay Z after his latest allegations, but also his debut album.
That album is more than just the foreshadowing of how his legacy will be remembered, as it shows a high quality of rap verses and production. The sampling is really good and makes the project sound like a soundtrack from a 90s mafioso movie. The album starts of really strong but it isn't a perfect imo as not every song has the quality of 'Dead ... read more
The quality of this album came as a surprise to me. Especially the production style and quality was unexpected. Really cool sound and makes for a nice listen. Action Bronson does really well as he has quotables and some good flows, but I think the production was actually the standout and more consistent than his performances here. I'm definitely feeling something with a 7 or maybe even more. Definitely a contender for album of the month.
Drake was known for good intros and good runs to set of his albums. Here the intro definitely shows us that the rest of the tape will be mid aswell. Again, you get to pick out ur favorite songs from this tape, as most would find something to replay, but it just isn't cohesive or a good project at all. Drake really gets carried by the features again. I feel like it's a 'More Life' part 2 mixed with 'Care Package' and a 'Drake Late Night Playlist'.
But ... read more
The thing with Drake is, that you don't hear a difference between Mixtapes, Compilations, Playlists and Albums anymore ever since Views. They are all just soups of more or less fitting songs thrown together. The quality of the songs itself are solid on here tho. I won't say too much to this project, as it is just Unreleased music from over the years. But the highs are definitely high!
Where I think songs would have fit best (album):
Take Care: Dreams Money Can Buy, Club Paradise, ... read more
With Scorpion, Drake reaches his commercial Peak but he lost his artistry somewhere on the way between 'Views' and 'More Life'.
The production on Scorpion is a nice base, not doing too much but building a perfect foundation for a Drake that needs his space for vocals. The only problem is that Drake doesn't do that well at all on this record. I like some beats, but Drake can't make them engaging or catchy enough, with the exception of the hits.
It has good songs, ... read more
Okay beats, okay performences but I love his Micheal Jackson type YeeHee Adlips 😂
Such a random pull btw. I don't know why I listened to this Larry June project specifically.
