This is one of those deep dive Bandcamp discoveries I am thrilled to have made, having been immediately drawn to first the cover art, then the tone, and now the music itself.

Opening with what can only be described as the setup to an extraterrestrial themed horror film in a genuinely unsettling phone call with someone rambling in what you interpret as their final moments about population control and the government. It's this early instillation of paranoia and the chilling ambience of the music ... read more

On clipping.'s last album, the experimental hip hop three piece made their debut into a new genre of music for them, that being horrorcore. Born out of their shared love of horror movies, they redirected their noise rap and industrial influences into a more minimalist, focused and genuinely unsettling style, with several standout songs featuring some ambitious soundscapes that showcased the best of the trio's production and rapping talents, albeit without the same consistency of some of their ... read more

Gorillaz are back once again, continuing their run of quick turnaround albums and following a mere two years on from their last album, the thoroughly underwhelming The Now Now, a record that not only lacked in star power, but also in ideas. It's an album often compared with The Fall, another more lowkey Gorillaz album, but for me the comparisons end there - say what you want about The Fall, it wasn't short on ideas, even with its lofi aesthetics. No, The Now Now was the sound of Gorillaz ... read more

This album could so easily have fallen into the derivatives of the styles it pulls from, but what's impressive is how Ela Minus is able to push forward in a blended form of clubby electropop and daring deep house.

This album is a soundtrack for change, a call to rebellion as the title suggests, and because of these things it is unsurprisingly and effortlessly anthemic, utilising its minimalist instrumentation effectively so every single sound and instrument has its place. It might be nothing ... read more

Before getting into this review, I think it's important to present the perspective I have going into this release, particularly given my former affinity for the band that lead me to attend their phenomenal show at Alexandra Palace in London. It was, I believe, something of a volta for my sentiments towards the band, and something that stems from my enjoyment of that very show. It wasn't simply that their performances of songs translated better into a live setting, or that their performances ... read more

Super busy, productive day, I've managed to storm through loads of February albums and inch ever closer to March. A lot of these had preexisting reviews which was great, but establishing new ratings for all of them made for an exhausting but fulfilling day. My aim is still to get through all the albums on my checklist by November so that I can catch up on a few missed albums, recommendations etc and then work on the year end lists. Yikes. Busy.
