Another big grower for 2020, Bladee is showing there are more angles to take the typical cloud trap style than what his Drain Gang peers are doing, and the results may not be career making, but they are a step towards what I hope will be his magnum opus somewhere down the line. For now though, I'm more than happy with what this album has to offer, but I hope that on future songs he gives himself more space to flesh out the huge builds on tracks like Only One.

I gave this another chance, and I'm so glad I did, cos this really does have a lot more to offer than I gave it credit for, and at the very least it's a step towards something greater for Deftones. If I'm being generous? This is among their best albums.

An alternative new direction for pop music that takes a more emotive, electro-rock approach more akin to Bjork and the 90s rather than the maximalism of the 2000s utilised by 100 gecs and the hyperpop movement.

Foster the People hold a conflicted place in my heart, a remnant from my indie pop obsessive phase that should have crashed and burned by now, but have somehow remained as a band that I will defend. On the Belarusian band's third album, their characteristically dark atmosphere has found itself amplified into the kind of barren cold depicted on the cover art, but what it's lacking is the rage of the ocean.

In a year overshadowed by the pandemic, it's easy to group together the other misfortunes of 2020 under one banner, but in doing so you would be undermining their severity, particularly in the case of the Belarusian election scandal. Already branded as Europe's last dictatorship, the ... read more

Super busy, productive day, I've managed to storm through loads of February albums and inch ever closer to March. A lot of these had preexisting reviews which was great, but establishing new ratings for all of them made for an exhausting but fulfilling day. My aim is still to get through all the albums on my checklist by November so that I can catch up on a few missed albums, recommendations etc and then work on the year end lists. Yikes. Busy.
