If what you are searching for is a hip hop album that you can just play front to back with no skips that is just a pure vibe then listen to Alfredo 2. The production flows so well and is just silky smooth with freddie spitting as good as ever switching his flows and delivering on all fronts. I love how it doesnt feel like alchemist just produced this LP but more like they both share an equal amount of stage presence. The samples as always are picked just right, the lofi production puts you in a ... read more
I feel like Son Of Spergy hit me at just the right point of the year and at a right point in my life. Such a calming listen, everytime I finish the LP I just feel so relaxed and at peace its crazy. I love how stripped back everything is and every sound, instrument or vocal is placed with such care and thought. I think its impressive how cohesive the tracks are and how they sound a-like but not the same, in 51 minutes of runtime I was not bored once. I also love the gospel influence it really ... read more
Westside Gunn really carved out his own lane at this point, the gritty drums, the jazzy samples and the coke rap delivered so effortless really paints a picture only he can deliver. I also think the LP has a perfect runtime and closes so well with Gus Smacker. I really enjoy HEELS HAVE EYES 3 for what it is and when I have that itch only Gunn can really scratch I now have another LP that is very consistent I can listen to. Also kudos to him for having such a consistent year and delivering 3 ... read more
This is more than a clipse comeback. They came with a complete new reinvention of their sound which is the best thing to come out all year. Pharrel killed it in the production department while pusha and malice sharpened their pens for this one. There is so much to unpack here and the sound is so refreshing I cant help myself but replay it over and over. The only negative thing I can say is that the chorus on "All things considered " is a bit akward sounding but even that you get used ... read more
Well well well. This shit sounds like a parody of what the jackboys 2 mixtape should have been. There are 2-3 songs that are good the rest is either mid or fucking dogshit I mean wtf is PBT or SHYNE. Some songs are actually unlistenable, I dont know how anyone approved of this. Did Travis not listen to his own songs? And how is a posse cut type of mixtape bloated??? Everything is lackluster, some songs save it from me putting it below average but maybe I will change my mind on that sometime in ... read more
Revisiting "faces" I noticed that this shit doesnt have a dull moment for one hour and a half. There is a reason this is called one of the best mixtapes ever and it really is. The often times jazzy and psychedlic production give this mixtape a dark but calm feeling, macs writing also is really introspective. Also the switchups to more mainstream sounding songs here and there is really tasteful because an hour and a half of just the psychedlic jazz rap could get boring or the tape ... read more
Flowers by durand jones & the indications is one of the most pleasent listening expiriences I had in a long time. They just know how to make a good soul song with lush instrumentation, tight concepts and all around good production + song writing. This LP hits the nail on the head for me and I am very happy there are still soul artists kicking about delivering a timeless & smooth sound you can just get lost in. Loved it!
"Jesus is King" is probaply one of kanyes worst LPs. Even if it wasnt kanye this would be a lackluster gospel album. It is listenable but doesnt have much substance just very mid. "Follow god" is great and I could see myself listening to "God is" but the rest is at best okay. I feel like his ego held him back on executing this cause I could see him going for this sound and actually nailing it. At least it is pretty short.
More Chaos is a pretty fitting name, it sounds like more of the same with no artistic direction except the rage sound. Some good songs on here saving this album from being complete trash but most of it is just a sea of mid to bad songs that blend into each other. The second half of this album really drags and it is just bloated for no reason. Very mid album, trap jump and Liveleak are bangers tho.
"Ye" somehow is as relevant as its ever been topic wise looking at what kanye is doing nowadays. Cool collection of songs some better some worse and then "Ghost Town" comes in the tracklist. I mean thats one of his best songs and its followed by "Violent Crimes" which also is an absoulute stunner. Defo worth it just for those 2 tracks. Please make something like this again kanye, I miss you.
Sunset Funeral just hits for me. I love the emotion it conveys, that yearning feeling, the themes of loss and the emotional density even tho it doesnt have to many audible lyrics. I dont know it could be that I overrate the fuck out of this but I just really love it. I think they got the most out of their sound in terms of staying true to themselves but also having some sort of variation so it doesnt get boring while making a quite cohesive LP. They keep the album length quite short which also ... read more
Jackboys had the potential to be so much more than it is tbh. Here are 5 songs one unnecessary intro and one unnecessary remix. Pick your 2-3 songs you like put them in a playlist and go on with your day. The project really doesnt hold any value besides that. I would give it a lower ranking but I have to admit "Had Enough" and "What to do" are enjoyable listens, "Out west" and "Gatti" are just bangers and "Gang Gang" is the only real miss (lets ... read more
From the Private Collection of Saba and No I.D. is a collection of unique sounding hip hop tracks. Saba keeps pushing his individualistic style that is very hard to replicate which makes him a unique presence in the modern landscape of hip hop. A lot of good bops on here, not as cohesive as some of his earlier work but still worth a listen. A few good songs defo is top 10 rap songs this year so far, such a good song.
I put off reviewing this album for quite some time cause I didnt know If my words could ever make it justice. How was this shelfed? I love the jazzy instrumentation, the introspective writing, the psychedelic production, the experimental vocal inflections, I mean I could go on forever. Balloonerism really sounds timeless with some lost classics on here like Stoned and Funny papers but also some darker and haunting tracks like Ricks Piano and more importantly Tomorrow will never know. Very ... read more
This LP is so fucking raw. I love the early 2000's DnB/Techstep/Jungle/Breakbeat sound it so infatuating. This one right here is a classic of the genre and it delivers. In my opinion there is only one miss ("get ready") and the rest is super solid with "Morning Light" and "Dont tell me" definetly being the highlights. Also for being part of such a niche genre (Techstep) the LP isnt monotone or boring at all and switches directions quite a bit. Enjoyed Uprising ... read more
I enjoyed quite a bit of "Men I Trust" music in the past but never heard a full album and I have to say it didnt disappoint. It delivers what someone would expect, very dreamy and translucent production with some nice sublte singing going on. I have to say I love the melodies but the writing can be quite hard to grasp at least in my opinion. The only thing holding this LP back is that it's almost to smooth and threatens to kind of turn to background music even if you are activly ... read more
"Music" is a southern mixtape disguised as an album. Pick and choose what you like there is more than enough material. People will say it is the best or the worst thing ever produced, I say it is okay. A few good songs, a few bad ones and a whole lotta mid.
Not boldys best but definetly better than what we got the last few releases. Tracks all sound very similiar, I really like the production although I am happy the LP wasnt much longer than 30 minutes. Boldys pen is as sharp as ever and chuck seemed to be in his comfort zone too. Nothing special, if you like this style of music you will like this very consistent and solid album.
Terrace Martin delivers some nice smooth soundscapes with features from selected artists. All in all pretty nice and jazzy, some songs are rather forgettable tho. Nothing groundbreaking but defo worth a listen for songs like Dear Dena or Not Sharing.
This shit is peak music, from the instrumentation to the singing and the topics. I really don't know if it can get much better than this piece of pure artistry. Fucking perfection.
