Primal Scream - Screamadelica

This album has been on my radar for a while (mostly because of Ultimate mentioning it a few times and showing me some tracks from it). I didn't really know what to expect from this project, since I wasn't really familiar with the band's discography besides the few tracks I've heard. I have to say though, the album cover is a great one. It intrigued me to check out the album. It looks so goofy, I love it. When I looked at the genre labels and read some reviews, I was surprised to see that this album mixes house, rock and psychedelia sounds. I mean, I'm always up for some genre blending, but I'm not well versed enough in these genres to really see how they would work together. I'm happy to report that this experiment worked. For the most part.

I have to just say, the cover makes even more sense after I have listened to the album. These songs feel like warm colors. Red and yellow. They feel welcoming and friendly. I'm not even a bit surprised that this album was influenced by LSD and MDMA. It's a very trippy and all over the place album. Again, it's probably because of the strange blending of genres. I love the track Loaded, it's probably my favorite song on the whole project. It's a groovy dance track that is the perfect length not too long, but not too short either. I also thought the lyrics were "I'm gonna get dicked down", but unfortunately, after looking up this song on Genius, it's actually "I'm gonna get deep down". Not fun. Now, as I said, this album is pretty good for the most part. The second half is uhhhh... inconsistent, let's just say that. Especially I'm Comin' Down and Higher Than the Sun (A Dub Symphony In Two Parts). They aren't bad per se, but they are unnecessary. This album's second half would have been much more enjoyable without those tracks. Luckily, the highs trump the lows, by a decent margin. It just means that the album is not a great project, only a really good one. Oh well, it's not that far off anyway.
