I confess, I wasn't too impressed with Necromantia's debut, Crossing the Fiery Path. I didn't think it was bad or anything, just kinda boring. I'm happy to say that Scarlet Evil Witching Black is a significant step up for the band. I thought this had incredible riffs, fun symphonic elements, and a great atmosphere.
This is one the most raw, filthy, ignorant, and just evil-sounding black metal albums I've heard in a minute. It's non-stop chaos until you get to the last track. Then after a few minutes of build up it goes back to being chaotic as all hell.
This is one of those albums people would question you for listening to and liking because even by black metal standards, this is pure chaos.
I loved it.
I bought the LP for this a few minutes into the third track. I love the vocals and the guitar work. Absolutely insane. Second best album released this year, only behind WORM for me.
