This would work a lot better as a musical than it does as an album.
I'm really not trying to dog on Lorely, but I think she's frequently one good production collab away from an incredible song these days, and I hear that again here. This has the potential to be great instead of just good, and I get disappointed/a little bummed thinking about that.
This sits somewhere in between early Aughts touchpoints like Peaches and Boys Noize, as well as Kim Petras on TURN OFF THE LIGHTS. It's a highlight in the modern pop milieu (initial thoughts are this could be as big as E-MO-TION or brat, but time will tell), and I'd love to see this usher in a wave of polished, groovy, horny electroclash-pop in its wake.
The addition of two powerhouse producers/songwriters in Rostam and Bullion really breathe life into Avalon's sound. The added depth helps support her complex, moody turns in songwriting, and this makes for a huge level up. "Astrology Poisoning" from her last album was my old favorite of hers, but I think this album is chock full of songs that beat it out.
This single is a total knockout. Lindsey's really blossoming as a songwriter, and the lush arrangement suits her really well.
