Upcoming Albums 2022

Unconfirmed albums I hope are coming:

Weyes Blood: LP5
Prediction: 93
'Titanic Rising' is one of my favourite albums of all time and it's been 3 long years since that masterpiece. Pls drop again.

MadGibbs (Freddie Gibbs and Madlib): 'Montana'
Prediction: 90
This might not release this year, given Freddie's solo album and the Madlib-produced Black Star album coming out this year, but it should be coming soon and I can't see how this would be anything but fantastic.

Flying Lotus: LP7
Prediction: 88
We had to wait 5 years for 'Flamagra' so I'm not sure this will release this year but I hope so.

Danny Brown & JPEGMAFIA: LP1
Prediction: 85
If this ever comes out, it's bound to be great.

Frank Ocean: LP3
Prediction: 85
I can dream alright.

Björk: LP10
Prediction: 85
Björk's discography has been hit or miss since Medúlla but the 2010's still saw some great albums from her (Vulnicura, Biophilia). After half-a-decade, she must have another great album lined up.

Herbie Hancock: LP47 (!)
Prediction: 85
Rumoured since 2016, if this does come out this year, it might feature Kendrick, FlyLo, Thundercat, Kamasi, Snoop, Common, Terrace, Wayne Shorter, etc.

Suede: LP9
Prediction: 83
Announced in 2020 and with no release date still, it's surely got to release this year. I really liked 2018's 'The Blue Hour' and like Brett Anderson's Hobbesian description of this album as "nasty, brutish and short".

The National: LP9
Prediction: 80
I've not fully gotten into a National album since 2013 so it's about time for another great album.

NxWorries (Anderson .Paak and Knxledge): LP2
Prediction: 78
I really liked their first collab. Looking forward to this.

Run The Jewels (Killer Mike & El-P): 'RTJ 5'
Prediction: 78
They said they had started working on it. RTJ 4 was the first RTJ album to really click with me so looking forward to this one.

Westside Gunn: 'HWH9'
Prediction: 78
It's not been long since 'HWH8' but knowing Westside, another one could be coming.

Perfume Genius - Ugly Season
1.
Prediction: 93

I am ridiculously hyped for this album. Perfume Genius never misses and his past 3 albums have all been AOTY contenders. I love the cover art; it's giving me Bjork vibes for some indescribable reason.
Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers
2.
88
Prediction: 90

Ngl I was disappointed by 'Damn' (in the context of Kendrick's discography). I still believe Kendrick can reach GKMC/TPAB levels again and the album title could mean he's going back to more jazzy stuff which is a win, but I'm not 100% confident. Either way, this album will be a nice birthday present for me :)
Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up There
3.
90
Prediction: 90

'For The First Time' was one of my favourite albums of last year and it singlehandedly put me on to the post-punk genre. I'm hoping this album can live up to the last one even though the singles aren't quite on the level of the first album's imo.
Earl Sweatshirt - SICK!
4.
85
Prediction: 90

Do I think this will be better than SRS? No, but it doesn't have to be. He's clearly trying new things and that's great. I'm also hyped that there's apparently some Alchemist beats on here; they have great chemistry.
FKA twigs - CAPRISONGS
5.
80
Prediction: 88

It feels like a century since the release of Twigs' last album in 2019 so I'm really anticipating this one. I still feel like she hasn't peaked as an artist. Maybe this could be it (although it does say it's a mixtape).
6.
Prediction: 88

KD1 was great. KD2 was fantastic. KD3 could be rap AOTY. Hit-boy and Nas haven't missed yet so I don't see any reason to doubt them.
Father John Misty - Chloë and the Next 20th Century
7.
88
Prediction: 88

FJM has never really missed. Both his first and last albums were great and the two in between were both AOTY contenders. I wonder which camp this album will fall into. Judging by the singles, I think this album might be somewhere in the middle of the two but I'm ready to be blown away.
Black Star - No Fear of Time
8.
83
Prediction: 88

Finally, we've got a release date. With Madlib production, I can see this one topping the first 'Black Star' album from 24 years ago (!)
Black Thought & Danger Mouse - Cheat Codes
9.
Prediction: 88

One of the best and most underrated rappers of all time teaming up with one of the best and most underrated producers of all time. This has the potential to come out of nowhere and blow every other rap project out of the water. Especially if this feature list is real: Raekwon, Joey Bada$$, Russ, MF DOOM, Michael Kiwanuka, A$AP Rocky, Run The Jewels and Conway the Machine (!!!)
10.
Prediction: 88

You never really know what you're getting with a Danny Brown album so I can't really say with any certainty how I'm likely to rate this. But I will say that Danny has never really disappointed, at least not for me in the last decade so this could be another AOTY contender from Danny.
Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez, See Your Future
11.
88
Prediction: 85

I really like Denzel Curry. I just don't think he's put out a legitimately great album yet. I definitely think this will be fantastic though, looking at the featured rappers and producers and given how much I love lead single 'Walkin'.
Big Thief - Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You
12.
88
Prediction: 85

None of the singles so far have beaten 'Not' or 'Anything' as my favourite Big Thief/Adrianne Lenker songs but then again they have all been consistently good. I'm just scared that they don't have enough good stuff to fill an entire double album. Fingers crossed.
Benny The Butcher - Tana Talk 4
13.
83
Prediction: 85

While I'm not a big Tana Talk guy (I prefer his other projects), the lead single for this album is my favourite hip-hop track of the year so far. Knowing Alchemist and Daringer are handling production on here, I'm sure this will be one of Benny's best albums, if not his best.
Beach House - Once Twice Melody
14.
85
Prediction: 85

The first 3 sections of the album have been remarkably consistent so I don't really see how I could give this any less than an 85.
15.
Prediction: 85

Do I think this will top the original? No. Do I think it could? Yes, assuming Kanye is on his A-game in terms of production. Also, assuming it ever actually drops.
16.
Prediction: 83

J.I.D is a really exciting prospect and his past albums have showcased his ridiculous flow. I think this album could be the full realised vision, which his past projects lacked. The singles have all been excellent: I love the different ways the 'One Step Ahead' sample is used on 'Surround Sound' as well as the the instrumental and Conway's feature on 'Ballads'.
Arcade Fire - WE
17.
78
Prediction: 83

It's been a while since we got an AF album and I'm hoping for a better one than their last. Judging by the two Lightning single, I think they are (thankfully) returning to their roots.
The Smile - A Light for Attracting Attention
18.
88
Prediction: 83

While I'm a fan of both Radiohead and Sons of Kemet, I just can't bring myself to be that excited for this new band. I do appreciate that some of these singles are giving me 'In Rainbows' vibes but I'm still not feeling it tbh.

[Edit] okay, I've sat with the singles for a while and they've definitely grown on me and I'm starting to understand the hype. I'd probably rank the singles like this:
1. Skrting On The Surface
2. Free In The Knowledge
3. Pana-vision
4. The Smoke
5. Thin Thing
6. You Will Never Work In TV Again
19.
Prediction: 83

Freddie has never really disappointed and is one of my favourite rappers atm but I am a bit weary that this isn't a link up with a single producer like 'Pinata', 'Fetti', 'Bandana' or 'Alfredo' (his best albums). I know he said that this is his best-produced album but ofc he's going to say that. Realistically, how could it be. None of the singles (as much as I like them) hold a candle in terms of production to the best moments on the albums I just mentioned.
Pusha T - It's Almost Dry
20.
85
Prediction: 83

Pusha T is an artist who I've always thought was capable of better than he's given us already. I like the single 'Diet Coke' and the Kanye/Neptunes production sounds promising so I'm predicting this one will top Daytona.
21.
Prediction: 83

While I enjoy 'Head High' considerably more than 'The Revenge', both singles have me excited for what could be Joey's best album since his '1999' mixtape. Now, knowing it's being framed as a sequal to '1999', I'm even more confident in this album. Hoping to see Static Selektor and Alchemist production (maybe even some more old Dilla and MF DOOM beats) and features from past collaborators Denzel, JID and maybe even Westside Gunn.
Fatlip & Blu - Live From The End of The World, Vol.1
22.
80
Prediction: 83

Very excited for this one. Love Blu (especially his albums this decade). Love Fatlip's work with the Pharcyde (still need to check out his solo stuff). The album has features from the likes of Del The Funky Homosapien, Bilal, MC Eiht and Hemlock Ernst and production from the likes of Knxwledge, Madlib, Exile, Nottz and Blu himself.
Cordae - From a Bird's Eye View
23.
78
Prediction: 80

Cordae is one of the most exciting young prospects in hip-hop today. I loved his version of 'Freeze Tag' with Dinner Party, 'Life Is Like A Dice Game' with Nas, Freddie Gibbs and Hit-Boy and 'What's Life' with Common so fingers crossed for this album. Also 'Sinister' (prod. Hit-Boy is a bop).
Saba - Few Good Things
24.
83
Prediction: 80

I'm hoping he doesn't just give us another 'Care For Me' because, as good as that album was, I'm sure Saba has more to him as a rapper.
Billy Woods - Aethiopes
25.
88
Prediction: 80

Billy woods is one of the most consistent rappers in the underground atm so I'm pretty hyped. The features look promising (Boldy James, ELUCID, Quelle Chris, El-P, etc.) so let's see how he follows last years 'Haram'. He sounded good on Earl's 'Tabula Rasa' so he should be on form here.
J. Cole - It’s A Boy
26.
Prediction: 80

Last year's 'The Off Season' was my favourite Cole album. Let's hope this trilogy keeps getting better with each installment.
J. Cole - The Fall Off
27.
Prediction: 80

This might not even come out this year but if it does, I expect it to be similar in quality to the last two instalments.
28.
Prediction: 80

I'm not the biggest Brockhampton fan but, if this is anything like 'Roadrunner', it should be great.
Curren$y & The Alchemist - Continuance
29.
78
Prediction: 80

The Alchemist has been nothing but consistent these past few years and the singles I've heard have been good so, while Curren$y isn't one of my favourite rappers, I'm sure this will be an impressive project.
30.
Prediction: 80

I thought her last two projects were very good but not quite great. I think it's about time a Noname album fully clicked with me.
Fly Anakin - Frank
31.
80
Prediction: 80

I'm hyped for this one. I enjoyed his work with Pink Sifuu, I've enjoyed all the singles leading up to this one and the producer list is kind of stacked.
Conway the Machine - God Don't Make Mistakes
32.
83
Prediction: 80

I've not been blown away by the singles I've heard but, knowing Conway and the producers he's got on this thing, it'll probably be very good. Also the mixtape he just dropped is really good. I genuinely think this album could be his magnum opus.
Joey Bada$$ - Head High
33.
Prediction: 80

While I enjoy 'Head High' considerably more than 'The Revenge', both singles have me excited for what could be Joey's best album since his '1999' mixtape.
Hus Kingpin - Bjorkingpin
34.
80
Prediction: 80

If this is something like his 'Portishus' album but for Bjork instead of Portishead, it will probably be fantastic.
35.
Prediction: 80

Both of the Jay Versace-produced singles 'Sorry' and 'Book Of Job' are great (assuming they are for this album) and I loved his last album 2019's 'Let The Sun Talk' so I can see this one being just as good.
Action Bronson - Cocodrillo Turbo
36.
78
Prediction: 78

Action Bronson was on a roll in 2019 and 2020. He took 2021 off but now he's back and I'm expecting more quality, especially if he's still working with The Alchemist.
Mitski - Laurel Hell
37.
75
Prediction: 78

Mitski is another artists whose work I like but don't love. The singles indicate this album won't break the curse.
Sharon Van Etten - Used To It
38.
Prediction: 78

I've seen no indication that this will be better than 2019's 'Remind Me Tomorrow' and neither of the singles so far reach the level of her best songs ('Like I Used To', 'Seventeen', 'Comeback Kid', 'Every Time The Sun Comes Up', 'Our Love', 'A Crime', 'One Day', 'Love More', etc.)
Angel Olsen - Big Time
39.
Prediction: 78

I really enjoyed her collab track with Sharon Van Etten in 2021 as well as her last studio album 'All Mirrors' and the lead single for this project so I'm optimistic.
Robert Glasper - Black Radio III
40.
78
Prediction: 78

I like Robert Glasper (I especially loved 'Dinner Party') and the feature list on this album is pretty stacked. The singles are also great. Looking forward to this one.
Chance The Rapper - Child of God
41.
Prediction: 78

Not a chance fan at all. I thought 'Acid Rap' and 'Colouring Book' were good but nothing special and the less said about 'The Big Day', the better. I hope this album converts me. Given the quality of the lead single, it definitely could.
Nicholas Craven - Craven N 3
42.
80
Prediction: 78
I loved the past couple of albums in the series. With features from Stove God Cook$, Boldy James, Evidence, Navy Blue, E L U C I D, Pink Siifu and Your Old Droog, I don't see how this one would be any different. This will likely be one of the best produced albums of the year.
The Weather Station - How Is It That I Should Look At The Stars
43.
73
Prediction: 78

While I've enjoyed their past couple of albums, the new single for this album is pretty underwhelming and sounds like more of the same, so I'll probably like the album but not love it.
AURORA - The Gods We Can Touch
44.
78
Prediction: 78

Going by the quality singles, I'll probably like this one more than her past two albums but not as much as her debut.
Suki Waterhouse - I Can't Let Go
45.
75
Prediction: 78

I loved her 2016 single 'Good Looking' and have been anticipating her debut album for a while now. None of the singles for this album reach the level of 'Good Looking' but they're still all quality.
Spiritualized - Everything Was Beautiful
46.
78
Prediction: 78

I've got a good feeling about this one for some reason. Maybe it's the cover art or the title, or maybe I feel like it's time I loved a Spiritualized album.
The Weeknd - Dawn FM
47.
78
Prediction: 75

I really liked 'Take My Breath' so this could be another album full of bangers.
Bonobo - Fragments
48.
80
Prediction: 75

Probably another solid but unremarkable album in the shadow of 'Black Sands'.
Jana Horn - Optimism
49.
80
Prediction: 75

Really like the singles I've heard. I just hope she can maintain this quality throughout.
Vince Staples - RAMONA PARK BROKE MY HEART
50.
75
Prediction: 75

I'm begging for a Vince Staples album that I can love. Last year's self-titled had moments of brilliance but often lapsed back into sounding generic. Hopefully, this will be the album to convert me.

@PelicanManners hey man, how are you? I'm just going by his last two recent singles so don't hold me to it. I hope he does though cause I really liked his last album. What other albums are you looking forward to this year?

Wait is Open Mike dropping this year?
