Oh yeah, the album with "Whip It". Besides this timeless song, what else do we got? The majority of the tracks are also nice and fun, and four of them are considerably weaker: "Snowball", "Ton o' Luv", "Don't You Know", and "That's Pep!". I think that 'Freedom of Choice' was when Devo shaped their identity as those robotic, modern guys with those iconic hats and all. It's mostly an enjoyable record for sure, but nothing too impressive to be ... read more

So this is how the 80s started for Kiss, not a great way to begin the decade with. It was also the last one with the original lineup until the 90s due to Peter Criss' departure. Besides that, not too much to be remembered here. Oh, there's "Shandi", a pretty tacky (?) ballad but I like it a lot. The rest is divided between not so inspired songs and decently fine ones. 'Dynasty', released one year before, presented some changes in their music, like trying some disco aspects, but here ... read more

As the tracklist suggests, this is a pro-Trump album in its entirety. It was released in February 2020 and, as I can conclude, recorded not so much time before, since Gray mentions that Soleimani topic that rocked the world in early January. However, there wasn't Covid yet, an important matter for the upcoming election. In 1981, Brazil was a way calmer country than it was when Gilberto Gil joined the mainstream more than a decade before. The military dictatorship would end less than 4 years later in March 1985, and since President João Figueiredo took office in 1979, "dictatorship" wasn't an appropriate word to describe the period anymore. Gil's 'Luar' reflects a more serene spirit from a man who doesn't want troubles anymore, just to enjoy the beaches and enjoy his life. It has some aspects ... read more

Without a shadow of a doubt, a very influential album. Rites of Spring planted the seeds of emo, which would take almost 10 years to get popular, and they were already pioneering it heavily in 1985. However, this doesn't mean I enjoy it. A few tracks are pretty cool, none of them suck, but overall it's just too noisy for my taste and reminiscing of hardcore punk. It is emotional, but I'm not crazy about this visceral style. For sure, it's okay to listen to, but I appreciate 'Rites of Spring' ... read more
