As a Taylor Swift fan, seeing the state of her artistic output makes me very sad. The Life of a Showgirl is another pop album by Taylor, and uses the showgirl aesthetic to provide us with nothing about this concept. This is mainly an album about love, which is not a bad thing but it's done in a way that doesn't provide anything new to Taylor's carrer. It also touches upon some other themes found again and again in her older songs. It's hard to not compare it to Taylor's ... read more
Charli xcx releases another thrilling, innovative and original pop album. This album feels like a combination of everything that makes Charli's music exciting: the sound she crafted, especially with the incredible producer A. G. Cook, touching in honest subjects like insecurities and at the same time singing about partying and having fun. This record cements Charli as one of the most exciting pop artists in recent years and I hope we can get a lot more from where this came from.
'Lionheart', Kate Bush's second album, was a rushed effort as her label wanted to capitalize on the success of her debut album 'The Kick Inside', and this is made clear as the record progresses. Sometimes I got the feeling that she didn't have much to say like in her debut, in which her artistic desire is very clear. This is by no means a bad album, the way that she plays with her voice and the production are definitely the high points of this album and songs like 'Symphony in Blue' and 'Wow' ... read more
Kate Bush's debut album 'The Kick Inside' proves how incredible Kate was from such a young age and how she would become one of the most important artists in history. Here we have a young girl who writes clever lyrics about many different themes, not just about love, like on the tracks 'Strange Phenomena', 'Kite' and 'Them Heavy People', upon gorgeous live instrumentation with beautiful arrangements. Her voice is the highlight of this album, she has a pretty high pitched voice and sings ... read more
Following her exceptional sophomore album 'Future Nostalgia' wasn't going to be an easy task for Dua Lipa. The first single of 'Radical Optimism', 'Houdini', is an amazing track produced by Kevin Parker that got me really hyped for the album. The followup 'Training Season' wasn't as good, but still a great track with once again great production. And then things started to slow down a bit with 'Illusion', a good song which, unfortunately, doesn't commit totally to the psychedelic sound that she ... read more
