For me, covers are something that 90% of the time don't work, and out of that 10% that end up being great, only 0.1% manage to be better than the original.
When it comes to tribute albums, they're something I usually despise, because they never try to accomplish anything on an artistic level. The only selling point for these kind of projects is the morbid curiosity of listening to an artist doing a cover of other artist whose music doesn't sound anything like theirs.

After their previous album, Today!, underselled, the Beach Boys returned to a more upbeat and summery soundfor Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!), where Wilson also abandoned the more semi-autobiographical approach for his lyrics in favor to appeal again to a wider audience.

Although on their sophomore album they explore a wider variety of sounds and styles than in their debut, Amyl & The Sniffers struggle to capture the same raw and unfiltered power that made their self-titled album so special.

And no, I don't think it's a disappointing follow up, but I was expecting something a bit different. Despite what the tags on this site say, this is more a hardcore punk/hardcore rock rather than a traditional punk rock album. The band sounds way more focused on doing ... read more
