Panda Bear - Buoys

Panda Bear's solo career has an oddly specific set of expectations from me - expectations one-of-a-kind from other artists. This all has to do with his 2007 album, Person Pitch.
Person Pitch instilled a love for a specifically slow, open and distant sound only Panda Bear could seem to make, and that aesthetic has been applied and slightly tweaked on each of his releases since.
Unlike Person Pitch, Tomboy and Panda Bear vs. the Grim Reaper felt a lot drier and flatter - the distant aesthetic associated with his music just felt stale and lifeless, and hurt the music more than helped it for me. I think a lot of it had to do with the types of sounds he was interested in during those releases. Instead of guitar, found on this and Person Pitch, Tomboy and PBVGR applied the same techniques to very stagnant synths. It didn't go over as well as with organic instruments in my opinion.
However, Buoys definitely uses the immense and sparse openness to its advantage, much like Panda Bear's earlier material.

I don't think this was to be as momentous as an Animal Collective album. It's a tranquil 30 minutes, and I think it fulfills its purpose pretty well.
