Join me at the evermore poetry club. I'll be posting a new point of view of this album every day... type (jack ant is my boss in the comments) if ur in
Post #1: Jack Anthonoff is a music genius, there's literally no one in the mainstream quite like him, I mean if Dr. Luke wasn't a diabolic rapist who knows?
Post #29: I saw a girl reacting to this song (tolerate it) and the way she had an interpration of some reality, where the person singing the song is a housewive back in the day when women were absolutely opressed to be it, I stopped for a sec, and that made totally sense... The way she waits around all day, doing everything to please a fucking man, and the end of the day comes, the only thing he does is tolerate her. A 50's/60's nightmare if you ask me, but I think it captures the essence of the song quite right.
Post #31: happiness is such an ethereal song, it feels like the fourth emotional stage of my favorite taylor songs starting with: New Romantics > Getaway Car > Cruel Summer > Happiness
Post #34: "And I fell from the pedestal
Right down the rabbit hole
Long story short, it was a bad time
Pushed from the precipice
Climbed right back up the cliff
Long story short, I survived"
no one can do a better comparison of their lives than taylor
Post #35: "What died didn't stay dead
You're alive, you're alive in my head"
This verse reminds me so much of some family members I've lost some years ago...
Post #47: "I wanna tell you not to get lost in these petty things, Your nemeses, Will defeat themselves before you get the chance to swing, And he's passing by, Rare as the glimmer of a comet in the sky"
Post #55: I feel like the 2 bonus songs are going into a new direction musically, maybe that's why Taylor didn't release them right away... they feel like the next chapter. Maybe the third part of the trilogy???
Post #59: Talking about alcohol, Aaron Dessner said Taylor composed 'tis the damn season completely drunk, JUST IMAGINE if she made a whole album dead ass wasted........
Post #60: "I wait by the door like I'm just a kid
Use my best colors for your portrait
Lay the table with the fancy shit
And watch you tolerate it
If it's all in my head, tell me now
Tell me I've got it wrong somehow
I know my love should be celebrated
But you tolerate it"
It's so interesting how Taylor compares a kid's vision with his parents and at the same time the situation can also be seen as a woman talking about her husband, or pretty much anyone who feels neglected by a loved one.
Post #63: In happiness the narrator feels dislocated after a relationship that didn't work out. But the sad thing is, she feels like the fault is hers, because she wasn't ready yet, as she states several times the phrase "You haven't met the new me yet", as a mantra for disbelief. I wonder how many people did that.
Post #66: "Were you waiting at our old spot
In the tree line
By the gold clock
Did I leave you hanging every single day?
Were you standing in the hallway
With a big cake, happy birthday
Did I paint your bluest skies the darkest grey?
A universe away
And when I got into the accident
The sight that flashed before me was your face
But when I walked up to the podium, I think that I forgot to say your name"
