Jeff Rosenstock - NO DREAM

If I went back a decade ago and told a Bomb the Music Industry! fan that Jeff Rosenstock would have a successful solo career, they wouldn't be surprised, they'd just say that it was kickass. If I then told them that most people didn't even listen to Bomb the Music Industry! and only knew about his solo career, they still wouldn't be surprised, but they would say that it certainly wasn't kickass.

BtMI! was never the type of act that in my mind would have found any kind of mainstream appeal, but Rosenstock went and proved me wrong. He took the wild and energetic sound his former band had and made it a little slicker, a little catchier, and kept the dial up to eleven and people bought in. And honestly, thank god for it.

Rosenstock keeps the energetic momentum up on his fourth release, a surprise release at that, and continues to deliver some of the most consistent and meaningful pop punk imaginable. The genre really doesn't get much praise, but Rosenstock is so infectious that folks don't even worry about the pop punk moniker.

Power pop is maybe a little more accurate, with just how pulsating this album really is. NO DREAM is full of tracks that are hamsters on wheels - spinning and running at a never-ending pace. Rosenstock has this kind of powerful rasp to his eclectic vocals that he's been utilizing for over a decade now, and it never genuinely gets old at all.

A perfect party anthem album, a raging frenzy record, and every meaningful thing in between, NO DREAM is a kickass record, and a perfect dream for a BtMI! fan. Now if you aren't one of those, do yourself a favor and go check them out. That would be kickass.
