Although this album has often stuck with me, it has been awhile since I gave it an additional listen. SZA is incredibly capable of making wholly digestible and pop-friendly music while still incorporating a soulful and unique sound that diversifies her from other music within the genre. The production across this is stellar, with thick beats and woozy soundscapes, complimenting the young singers impressive voice. To the untrained ear this may seem like any typical R&B release in the modern sphere, but it is far from that easy; it is a complex and distant album that exhibits smart songwriting and storytelling along with genuinely catchy musical content.
