Moses Sumney - Aromanticism

Ever since this album was released in 2017 I've never stopped returning, never stopped feeling, and never stopped loving the incredible experience of Aromanticism.

Moses Sumney is such a force of nature on this record, with graceful vocal melodies and soulful emotion. From the get go you get the sense that his voice can guide you through any song and there is no limit to the range that he is capable of accomplishing. Whether wistfully breezing through a soft track or bellowing out intense emotion, Sumney lands every mark with flying colors. I get chills hearing his voice to this day, regardless of how many times I hear it.

The incredible aura of this album is also something to marvel at. It is ever-encompassing, washing over you and allowing you to feel isolated yet open ended. It isn't just the vocal performance that allows you to feel lost in the record; the instrumentation and tonal shifts have just as much of an impact throughout this record.

I remember showing this album to a friend once and they laid the seat back in the car, closed their eyes and didn't say a word for an entire half an hour. They experienced the album exactly as it should be, in a place of comfort yet in a place of insecurity and vulnerability. Sumney strips himself bare across this record and it's impossible not to open yourself up to his emotive power and chilling atmosphere.

An underrated masterpiece of this decade, Moses Sumney is impossible not to feel entirely.
