i will not be listening but i am tired of seeing this at every record store
i’m ngl conductor’s tags were more diverse than boldy’s flows
these two are both talented enough that they will inevitably make a very solid record so long as they stick to their formula, but they stuck too rigidly imo
oh yeah this is my 100th review.. i was gonna do something special but i noticed i have already reviewed all my favourite albums. so enjoy these boring few sentences
God damn.
This album feels like such a love letter to Lupe's lifelong exposure to Japanese culture but it also feels like so much more. It feels like nostalgia; like listening to retro Lupe or any other conscious rapper on my way back from school in 2019. It feels like Lupe is a true student of jazz music as opposed to calling himself a "jazz rapper" because he has some brass instrumentation. He was scatting on this album. man i wanted to like this as much as 'let's start here', which was my 2023 album of the year..
but something just isn't it here. this whole project lacks direction and stickability compared to let's start here. this may change on future listen, but while i still liked this album quite a bit, it's definitely not on the level of let's start here
fav tracks: in grey, run away from the rabbit
least fav tracks: save the savior, red carpet

billy talent 3 is EASILY the worst of the trilogy, though it does have its standouts like rusted from the rain
i could 100% see my score going up - like i have significant issues with the album and its STILL an 81
i think the production is a little stronger than the lyricism but i do love this fusion between the very roots of rap and new rap trends
overall i have no doubt JVB could one day drop a masterpiece
this is THE greater than the sum of its parts album. rubber soul has higher highs but revolver is a more cohesive album.
this album is not for me but i'm glad so many people are rallying around it and loving it
