Ah shit, here we go again. AOTY is once again under attack by stans!
Message to the Stans (Real review at the end):
You guys have to understand that scores don't matter, right? This is not the way to show support to your favorite artist. This site has a community and what you're doing is breaching our community for someone else's gain, when that "gain" doesn't really give them anything. Also if you didn't already know, one person is running this site. Yes, just 1 person. What you're doing is simply making their life harder than it has to be. Just because you love Ariana Grande and her music, doesn't mean you raid the site to boost the score, that's just common sense. Scores don't matter, but what you guys are doing is lowering the legitimacy of the scores, and it makes you happy for some reason. Do you really think Ariana Grande would approve of this? Even if she did, do you really believe this is right? Apparently this is due to a feud with another fanbase? That they're raiding as well? If that's the case, then just let them get banned, don't become your own enemy here.
Don't waste your time here, it's not worth it. You guys will eventually be banned from the site. But from past experiences, I can understand the motive to do this. You know why?
Ignorance is bliss. That's it. You'll totally disregard other people to put your favorite artist on a pedestal.
Alright I'm done with my ranting, here's my actual review of the album:
Ariana Grande comes back again with another disappointing project. Ariana has a lot of potential, she really does. She has a nice voice, but she decides to use it the wrong way. But, this is the way she blew up, so of course she's just going to extend further on it. With this new album, it's not much different than her other stuff . I mean it's kinda R&B but like, a disgrace to it? This album is extremely mediocre at best, and it's sad.
We start off with "shut up" which I just have to say, the chorus sucks. "So maybe you just shut uUuuUuUUUUp." I hate that vocal run for some reason. The only redeeming factor here, is the instrumental (I guess). Track rating: 2/10
Next, we have "34+35" and guys guys guys, if you didn't know, that adds to a very funny number, 69. Holy crap, Ariana really referenced sex, I didn't even know she knew what that is. But seriously, this is just a really average pop song with cringe-worthy lyrics at the chorus. No one will catch me singing that chorus that's for sure. Track rating: 4/10
Track 3 named "motive" featuring Doja Cat! I don't really see the appeal of Doja but she's alright. Anyways, this track is pretty average as well. I mean Ariana sings pretty well, but it's just something we've heard before. Then Doja comes for her verse sounding like she just smoked 10 cigarettes and brings down the score for me. Track rating: 4.5/10
"just like magic" is another example of just average, but it's not bad, probably the best track so far, not much to say on it though. Track rating: 5.5/10
"off the table" was the only track I was really looking forward to with this album because of The Weeknd feature. Just like this whole album, I was very very disappointed. This was a huge snoozefest for me. A big waste for an Abel feature. 5/10
When the track starts with lyrics with like "You know I'm very delicious", it immediately turns me off. "six thirty" although being one of the better tracks, still doesn't impress, and I still feel empty after listening. Track rating: 5/10
"Featuring Ty Dolla $ign" no surprise at all with that one. This is the best song on the album honestly, and I didn't expect that at all. I think their voices mix together quite well and it's a pretty solid track. The ending of the track was pretty good too. Track rating: 7.5/10
"my hair" is another very average track. I'm about to fall asleep listening to this album. Only thing I can really say for this track is the instrumental is good? I guess? Track rating: 4.5/10
"nasty" is another average track. God if I hear the same lyrics about how she wants to have sex one more time, I literally just can't help but cringe to it. Literally no emotion put into this song either, like she just gave up completely on the chorus. Hey! But now I have a track to fall asleep to! Track rating: 3.5/10
Again? Really? "west side" again being a super boring track. This track makes her look like she was singing her heart out on "nasty." Track rating: 3/10
Now with "love language" it's more interesting. Honestly I think the beat is carrying it here and her voice mixes very well with it. I have finally been awoken from my sleep! Track rating: 7/10
I've already talked about "positions" but I'll say what I said before again. It's a solid song, but now listening to it with the context of this album, this is one of the stronger tracks. This was a red flag for me before because I thought she wouldn't push herself with the album when she's still making songs like this, and I was right. Track rating: 7/10
"obvious" is just a solid average Ariana Grande song. It's good, but nothing special at all. But this being so close to the end of the album? Almost ending on this? Kinda just proves that Ariana isn't a very ambitious artist. Track rating: 6/10
"pov" ends this very disappointing album pretty well. Why couldn't the rest of the album have at least a bit of quality as this? I mean it's not that good but comparing it to the rest, it's still one of the strongest tracks. Track rating: 7/10
Overall, this album was very disappointing. Ari has shown multiple times that she has potential in making a great project, but "positions" isn't it. She has tried with R&B but it just came out as a disgrace to R&B and even if she switched genres, it isn't anywhere near being ambitious or groundbreaking. It might be a little different but it's not that good.
Favorite Tracks: safety net, love language, positions, pov
Least Favorite Tracks: shut up, nasty, west side
Overall Track Rating Score: 51/100
Final Score: 48/100 (Subtracted 3 points from how disappointing it is)
