All I can say is I’m so glad I was able to chill out and lower my expectations. I really enjoyed this. Also fuck first listen reviews.
Of course the extra bloat and the lack of substance were expected. What’s really disappointing to me is how derivative and low effort it is. Carti relies on the features and production to carry (which fails more often than not) while he raps in an extremely uninspired way sounding like a worse version of Future.
While this project is definitely a little bloated it’s still great. Raekwon and Ghostface are two of the best members of Wu Tang and RZA’s production delivers as usual. The highlights are tracks 3-7 but the rest of the album is good too.
Love the production on this and there’s a lot of variety. While the album isn’t anything mindblowing it’s catchy.
Future is never going to really impress me as a rapper but he can definitely write cathcy hooks. And on this project he does it more often than not. The production is cool even though some of the longer tracks can get boring with the constant loops. Overall the hit/miss ratio is pretty good here and there are some great songs especially towards the end.
Edit: i’m not even active on this website anymore it’s just funny how Future is in my top 3 now I used to hate on him so much😭
Lupe’s debut album is lyrically sharp, cleanly produced, well rapped and smooth. Other than two overproduced tracks and an awkward chorus the album is basically flawless and I imagine people at the time knew that they are listening to an artist who will eventually become one of the most acclaimed rappers of his era.
First half was solid but damn the album just kept getting better and better with every song.
This album is so pretty and atmospheric. Sade’s voice is stunning, her lyrics are powerful and the production is outstanding. I genuinely don’t think anyone could dislike this. The only flaw is that certain songs run a bit too long but other than that it’s fantastic.
Graduation is still decent but has grown off me a little. I feel like a lot of this album is reliant on sampling and the synths Kanye uses. And they’re great but I think they take away from Kanye’s personality. Yes he’s still funny and there are a few songs that feel more personal but nowhere near as much as his first two or even his following two albums. Catchy pop-rap songs like Good Life or The Glory just don’t get me that excited anymore. Big brother and Flashing ... read more
I’m impressed by Yeat’s evolution here. The production on this project is way more interesting than what I heard before sometimes even going into experimental sounds. Yeat has more to say on this album too. He’s fighting against his demons and he stops using drugs before it’s too late. There is still a bit of bloat on this album and Yeat isn’t the most expressive artist but overall I’m interested to see where Yeat goes from here.

It finally clicked. I used to think it was boring and underwhelming but after this listen I realized it’s actually quite catchy and really well produced. Yes, the rapping still doesn’t blow my mind but some verses really grew on me. The first half is full of bangers and the second half is still good. It does put into perspective how boring Blue lips is though.
