While Jubilee may not be incredibly ambitious, it’s not trying to be. All it’s trying to do is make you, the listener, smile, and I was smiling throughout the entire record. My favorite tracks are the opener and the closer. Paprika, the opener, works well as an opener because it gives the listener a taste of what the rest of the album will be like, but it also works well on its own. So, I wasn’t going to listen to this album. I just thought it was a live album with recordings from For the first time and Ants From Up There, but once I heard that it was actual new music… I got so excited. I was very curious to see where they would go without Isaac. Would they still make the same style of music they did before, just with a different vocalist? Would they make completely different music? I don’t know what to say about Melodrama. It’s just so… perfect. Sure, it’s not devoid of issues, but I can count those issues on one hand, and they don’t bother me while I’m actually consuming the music. There are so many moments on here that I cannot get enough of. The chorus of Writer in the Dark gives me chills every time.
