I went into this expecting and wanting to hate this album, but I actually thought it was a good teen-pop album. It’s clear that Jessica was shaping into the Britney mold with this record though.
Jessica Simpson’s debut album ‘Sweet Kisses’ is a mixture of both Britney-esque teen-pop songs like ‘I Think I’m In Love with You’ and ‘I’ve Got My Eyes On You’ aswell as beautiful ballads like the lead single ‘I Wanna Love You Forever’ and my favorite track on the album, ‘Heart Of Innocence’. ‘Janet.’ was that album that transitioned Janet Jackson from pop icon to the musical legend that she is today. Janet takes on a new sensual r&b sound for this album, introducing us to a new side of her. We meet the sexually liberated Janet Jackson that we all know and love today, who isn’t afraid to speak out on her inner thoughts, urges, and needs. There isn’t a bad song on this album, even if some do tend to go on longer than I would like them too.
Janet Jackson’s ‘Rhythm Nation 1814’ is an outstanding piece of work that will stand the test of time and continue to influence music and society as the time passes. Spawning some of the biggest hits of the late eighties and early nineties, this album is a staple of both decades.
