Continuing on with my dive through Fantanos NOT GOODS we have Lil Baby with My Turn. Lil Baby is a rapper from Atlanta who has risen to incredible popularity in the mainstream trap landscape and if I'm completely honest up to this point Lil Baby's popularity has been mind boggling to me, as Lil Baby hasn't really done much to make him stand out from being just another trap rapper. I heard My Turn already before this and I was really indifferent towards it, I just thought "oh well it's another run of the mill trap album, next", so I didn't really bother to note much from it, well after giving it another chance my opinion hasn't really changed all that much but I've been enlightened a bit on what Lil Baby's appeal is.

To say that My Turn is without its high points is being dismissive as Lil Baby does manage to cook up some pretty good tracks throughout this albums duration, I feel like a lot of the time Lil Baby can pull of some pretty decent flows, he has some moments where his slurred vocals can be soothing, some of the production is pretty good and for a trap album there's a surprising amount of content in terms of lyrics, granted its all the same tunnel vision bars but at least its deviating from just being delusions of grandeur music, but there are tropes in this album that just make the whole album experience a slog to sit through. For one this album is an hour long and 20 tracks, in my opinion no trap albums should be this long, the genre is way too uninteresting to hold that much from one artist and Lil Baby isn't exactly the most interesting or versatile artist built to carry an album like this, there's so many dull and filler tracks that if you cut them out, this album would become an EP. Secondly whenever Lil Baby's voice and slow paced flows blend on a track, it's basically sleep inducing, like at times this is so boring that it's mind numbing and that was the case for the first 4 tracks, I was struggling to stay awake listening to those tracks. Thirdly when the production isn't hype or interesting it's predictable, formulaic, generic and boring, sometimes the percussion is mixed like ass to, like some of these hi hats and snares can range from sounding way too thin to sounding way too loud, that's why I can't enjoy a song like The Bigger Picture which he released earlier this year because the production on that song is fucking trash. Finally I feel like the features on this album are very weak bar a couple, Young Thug has the best feature on the album but the rest were ok, couldn't care less for what Lil Wayne, Moneybagg Yo, Lil Uzi Vert and Future were doing and Rylo Rodriguez, Gunna and 42 Dugg had trash features, not much else to say here. So yeah that's all that really needs to be said about this album, it's not as bad as some people make it out to be and it has its qualities but it gets overshadowed by its length, verse quality and production, I honestly hope that Lil Baby can prove me wrong and make a project that will blow me away but for now I don't see him doing much to impress me for an entire album.

So yeah, this Lil Baby album is..... NOT that bad.

Best Tracks: Woah, Emotionally Scarred, We Should and Consistent

Worst Tracks: Heatin Up, How, Grace, Get Ugly, Same Thing and Can't Explain
