Goofy cover.
Ahh, I guess I'll say that I'm not very surprised. I mean, all her albums have been amazing so far, there had to be at least ONE dud in her discography. This is it. This is the dud.
Following "Medúlla", I seriously had no idea what I would get from this album. Her sound has evolved in some way or another with each release, so I went into this expected literally anything. And what I got was... surprising?
This records' biggest fault in my eyes is the production. Something just sounds off about all of these songs. My other complaint is that this thing is inconsistent and messy. You get a good song, then a bad song, then a great song, then a mediocre song, so on and so forth. It's just really difficult to have fun with the album from start to finish.
Björk, as per usual, does her thing. Sounds great, has very intriguing and thought provoking lyrics, no issues on that side of things. However, the inclusion of this other vocalist on a couple songs really rubs me the wrong way. Not to say they have a terrible voice, but it just sounds wrong. That might just be me though.
Now, I've mostly said negative things about this project so far, but that's not to completely put it down... There are actually enough promising and enjoyable moments on the record! I think it starts off really strong, and some of the themes here are really interesting.
Overall, this was just okay. It has its' moments, and the ideas are definitely there, but the execution leaves much to be desired.
Seriously goofy cover though, what the fuck?
