Eminem has served up a dense, divisive, and inconsistent album that has really compelled me.
I just want to say first that the concept of this project is stellar. I absolutely love the idea of an album where Em battles with his past self and tackles the implications and weight of his maturing and artistic changes. I really like him using the Slim Shady persona as a physical indicator of where he used to be versus where he is now. Plus, I just think the old Em voice with the young one on the ... read more
Coldplay Deep Dive #3
Underrated as hell!! Genuinely my favorite album from them so far. I love the sound of this album; it feels like a perfect fusion of the strong points of their first two records without the weaknesses. Sure, it's a bit long, but the songs here all have a really strong presence, and the writing is just so solid. Great lead guitar work as well. Love this thing
Favorites: Square One, White Shadows, Speed of Sound, A Message, Low
Least Favorite: Talk
Such a solid album. Amazing beats and performances, and so easy to just throw on and vibe to. This'll be on repeat all year
Yeah, we know this album is bad.
I used to defend the SHIT out of Imagine Dragons, Smoke & Mirrors in particular. Hell, I still kinda like that record. As I've gotten older and have heard more music, though, it's dawned on me just how soulless and consistently subpar this band's output is. This isn't their worst project (still Origins...), but it's definitely their most forgettable. So many of these songs blend together with their tight, staccato percussion and dry ... read more
This DEFINITELY has chance to grow on me. I really didn't vibe with it on first listen; I think the sound just caught me off guard (I didn't tap into any of the singles). Subsequent listens were definitely more positive. This is a great album that I don't love, but do respect.
Fuck it, this album is great. I was really not on its side in the first half (the only side A song I really enjoyed fully was Automation) but holy FUCK side B is really good. some fantastic funky grooves that make it impossible to call this project mid
edit- 70 -> 65 : This fell off on repeat listens. I definitely still like it, but a lot of the strong songs weakened over time, and the weak songs got weaker.
This was such a disappointingly forgettable experience.
So much of this album sounds like filler. Even the songs that I'd consider good, like Float Into The Sky and Out Loud, just feel stretched out far beyond the point where they stop being interesting. The writing here is also really not great; I didn't mind the chorus of the opening track until I just kept hearing it over. and. over. and it just got so old. In a similar vein, the song structure here does these tracks no favors. So many of ... read more
Clancy is an album that has a lot of AMAZING moments, but the glue holding it together can falter.
This album has been one of my highest anticipated of the year since it was announced; I knew, whether good or bad, that it would be worth paying attention to. A drop on this big of a scale always is. Plus, with the entire marketing around this thing essentially painting it as a sequel to their most acclaimed (and best) album, the band was absolutely gaining to have as many eyes on this release as ... read more
Some of the instrumentals here are pretty alright, but Jesus this singing is ass. Dreamin and Stardust are alright but the rest of this thing is kinda just slop
This album is beautiful, bold, and Billie at her absolute best. Between tight grooves, beautiful synth work, and mind-blowing climaxes, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT is a fantastic experience from front to back.
I have very mixed feelings on this project.
I personally missed out on 3.15.20 back when it dropped (I was WAY too obsessed with The New Abnormal lmfao), so this is my first experience with a lot of these tracks. You get to decide if that invalidates this review or not. :^)
The bookends of the record are genuinely amazing. Atavista and Algorhythm are two of my favorite songs of the year- so interesting and unique, I love both of them. I love the piano, synths, and other percussion on ... read more
this was a 55 until finish line / drown and that shit blew me away so hard what an amazing track
this is amazing. the blend of beautiful piano balladry with groovy drums and bass makes this thing so fun to listen to. the production is so lush and every song feels like it was poured over with love. fantastic listen
THIS IS SO GOOD WHAT?! I expected this to be like their last album - mid with a couple highlights - but this thing is SUPER consistent and great. Some of the band's best moments EVER land here. A pleasant surprise, I loved this album
I always really enjoyed this record, but I've been obsessed with it recently and it's just shown how untouchable so many of these songs are. Long live Rage. This album is timeless.
update: 95 -> 100
This shit is perfect. Flawless album. The way that these four guys can sound so huge just on their own is incredible.
