This is one of those albums where it’s hard for me to rate because my enjoyment of the album does not match the quality of it, such as many others. This time it’s in reverse, I enjoyed it and loved decoding it but quality-wise I did feel it didn’t measure up. So I have no idea what to rate it. Honestly Nick cave albums are really hard to rate and I wanna remove all of the other ratings I’ve given
Sooo much fun. But there were so many songs where for some reason the guitar was too loud in the mix and therefore the vocals weren’t as gutting as they could’ve been so that’s unfortunate. This is a provisional rating by the way because I wouldn’t know how to rate it against other albums by Nick cave. In terms of storytelling, world building, this album excels. Listened to this when it came out in 2023 but just reviewing it now because I am listening to a song from it. So it’s pretty good but I guess at no point did I feel particularly amazed (except with lacy but even then musically it does nothing for me). I like the self aware lyrics but I’ve seen some other artists do it better. It’s ALMOST good to me, but I think maybe just lacking in places.
