After dropping some solid singles (the tracks featuring Griselda members Benny and Westside being among my favorites of the year so far) I'm struggling to determine whether I had just set my expectations too high or if this album really is lackluster outside of the songs we've already heard.

Royce is dropping knowledge, however more often than not it's misinformation or simply Royce trying to sound deep without actually saying anything.

Royce fans, we've been tricked, tricked, tricked.

FOTO was the one album from 2019 that I wanted to like so much more than I did, and the amount of times I listened to that album compared to albums I actually did really enjoy shows that effort. I love Kota's sound, but the lack of range in it makes it difficult to love for an hour straight. With this project, Kota solves that problem. It starts and it ends with little time for it too much an impact let alone get boring. The 10 tracks are really 10 individual verses. No hooks, no refrains, ... read more

Score reflects only the tracks exclusive to the Director's Cut edition.

Like the original version of this album (as well as the earlier editions of this series), the Director's Cut features mostly decent, forgettable music from artists that usually capture my interest. As far as early-2000's mainstream gangsta rap albums, this was one of my favorites at the time, which in turn means it's one of the only ones I'd have any interest in listening to nearly two decades later. It's the standard hodgepodge of tracks for everybody that was the all the rage in hip hop during this era; you have your select tracks from heavy hitters The Neptunes, Timbaland DJ Premier and Just Blaze, plus Alchemist for a few appearances and Ruff Ryders in-house producer Swizz Beatz ... read more

A promising start with two enjoyable tracks, the second thanks to an excellent 9th Wonder beat that 2 Chainz manages not to ruin, but after that it's mostly 2 Chainz barely floating just above mumble rapping over trap beats. I applaud 2 Chainz for trying to make a more mature record, but he doesn't have the skills nor the type of beats that allow such a thing. Get back to trying to make club hits, nobody is coming to a dude formerly known as Tity Boi for a serious rap album.
