Revisiting this album after the announcement of their new one, and It's sounds way better as I initially thought. It's so fun and energetic with a crazy amount of variety, and some of the melodies here are so addictive man. Especially love vocal variations throughout, which let the songs never get boring. The playing here is also on point. Also need to mention how good the female guest vocals are, according to Discogs she only has credits on this album which is really surprising.

Ah I love this so much, they manged to evolve their sound so perfectly. Especially the addition of synths and live strings works so good with the piano led sound. Also they improved the production which helps the instruments to have way more punch. The vocals are still the highlight of course, Lynsey Ward is without doubt my favorite female vocalist right now.
This is only their 2nd EP and this guys already got such a distinct sound, so excited about their future.

Once again an amazing release by the Australian boys. Every song feels like a ride through various emotions due to how dynamic the songs are. Sometimes they make you cry (like the first half of Misericorde II and Anhedonia) or starting to headbang like a madman (in the breakdown of Equus or the 2nd half of Suspyre). Also the contrast of the 2 vocalists is still one of the most unique things you will ever hear.
Overall it's not reaching the highs of their other albums, but they have grown on me ... read more

It took me a long time to "get" this album, it's impressive. I can totally hear the Portishead comparison, most songs are build on that typical trip hop minimalistic beat but without sounding monotonic. The production is clearly the best part of this album, I can't believe that this is from the 90s, it sounds so futuristic. The songwriting is interesting too, and the features offer the strongest vocals here (especially Elizabeth Fraser), the vocals from the two band members are ok ... read more
