A cute track and a cuter cat :3
(You might want to change the release date though)
May The Lord Watch is a beautiful record about perseverance and nostalgia. It's rare to hear contemplative bars hit so hard without being cheesy, but every single second of this album squeezes out talent and relevant observation. I'd advise anyone who hasn't to give it a listen as without a doubt, this is one of my favorite projects of 2019.
The shrill distorted screaming on Floor Seats best represented my reaction to the Mo Bamba sample in Pups.
First reaction: Matt had a good verse- DOMMMMMMMmmmmMMMMMMMMMM AAAAAAAAAA bearface aaaaaa aaa a
No Halo held a cohesive, relaxed vibe throughout the entire song. Matt had an above-average verse, Dom absolutely murdered his verse (except I couldn't help think "we live in a society" on the "pop the stitches from society" part) and I have a soft spot for bearface for some reason.
However, I felt like No Halo only differentiated itself from the other tracks by having an ... read more
Wow, you don't often hear ambient music from AOTY users. I had my speakers on max at the end and it sounded like someone accidentally hit push-to-talk at the end (it actually sounded pretty nice, shook my whole room). I also approved of the music video, the opening image blessed my soul.
(We need to organize a cats of AOTY discord or something by the way)
Young Thug managed to feature Lil Baby, Gunna, Juice WLRD, and NAV, name a song "pussy", and interpolate SICKO MODE and STILL drop a decent project.
I wasn't expecting much experimentation due to the features and the title, and the album lived up to my expectations. A lot of energetic verses from both Thugger and the featured artists. I basically lived for the Pi'erre Bourne produced tracks for the most part and tried to enjoy the rest.
Pre-Album: The worst album cover in town. (Kinda excited though, Soop has been hyping it up)
Post-Album: Not going to lie, I've been Addie's biggest hater for a long time. His lyricism, while improved, remains a weak point on this album. His voice also adds to the amateur-ish feel of the tape. The mixing, while improved, could use a lot of work. The concepts aren't experimental, and they don't try anything new. Also, Giving Up Happy Again directly rips all of its sound off from CSH's My Back ... read more
"It's been a rocky life
I wanna die ASAP A$AP"
-The 1975 closer ‘I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)’
This feels like pre-calculus all over again, the overuse of formulaic thinking is putting me to sleep.
Will Toledo is an upstanding young man who has upheld the letter of the law to the fullest extent of his abilities. He passed through his school years and through college without any evidence of criminal wrongdoings being attached to him, indeed becoming a role model and a guiltless beacon of hope to his peer group, members of whom might have otherwise been terribly misled. He has no identifying marks or scars. Will works as a writer and performer for the band Car Seat Headrest and should not ... read more
Tyler's best release yet - a beautifully personal album that balances his rapping and singing talent well. I think it surprised everyone to hear a mature yet open Tyler. Just another day in enjoying his sporadic, energetic talents.
My one critique is that I felt the album got a bit bloated or similar sounding in the middle. If he cut some of the crap, this easily could've been one of the best albums I've heard from 2017. Unfortunately, we got a Lil Wayne feature instead.
I thought it was MF DOOM before, then thought it was someone else, got really confused, went to this site, and then realized it is MF DOOM. Ok.
I'd imagine this is what you hear when you die and begin a new life all over again.
Discovering all the new twists and subtleties the production has to offer excited me at every corner. I'm a huge abstract hip hop/sound college fan but I don't think I've heard anything that's rivaled this yet. This has seriously made me appreciate music again in a way that I haven't felt since Twin Fantasy in 2018. Breathtaking.

Pre-Album: BROCKHAMPTON has become stale and too worried about their image. I hope they prove me wrong.
Post-Album: I miss Ameer
This is a fucking masterpiece. I listened to this with my friends while going through an airport and I have to say every bit is a wild rush. It may not be the most inventive or creative out there, but FUCK it creates a wonderful blend of all the genres I like listening to.
Definitely my AOTY.
Written from a friend of the old user of this account.
I'll always remember him by this song. I don't really know how to describe the way I feel when I hear this. It's a strange memento of where we came from. Memories during an unnatural silence, a vacant space in a chair, a contact offline for days.
This is a song I would have preferred not to feel any nostalgia towards, but it shows itself to be an inevitable task. Will created a masterpiece here, one that captures the fucked up but ... read more
Abstract hip hop is my atmospheric rock
A real cerebral and peaceful album to listen to. It fills your mind and at the end leaves you in a drowned out and meditative state. 10/10 would escape from my problems again
So many memories bumping this tape. I think I'm on a nostalgic trip of myself as I keep reviewing my old favorite albums.
Listening to an 18-year old Denzel with a completely different mindset sharply contrasts with ZUU or any of his newer work. He raps with a nihilistic outlook on life and with such raw and unbridled energy it shakes a listener to the bone. Anyways, I'm glad Denzel got into the mainstream, I never would've expected it.
