Nirvana - Nevermind

Grunge was the 90s' equivalent to depressing Soundcloud rappers wasn't it?

Look, there are some great riffs and such, but A LOT of the songs here aren't anything special or well developed for me to see eye to eye with people praising this album as a classic. This has way more cultural significance than it has in musical merits and consistency. For a grunge band attempting to pull off damaged and filthy riffs, a part of this album's production is too clean to serve the musical vision that Kurt & Co. are aiming for. Maybe that's just a personal preference, but in the end I don't see this album, or grunge as a whole, as deserving of its glory as many others claim.

I agree on the grunge criticisms. My biggest gripe is that all we have to listen to is the new remastered version and not the original and those two make COMPLETELY different records. I own it on cassette and every bit of praise the record gets fits like a glove. Gritty, loud and Kurt actually doesn't sound bassy at all.

I'm not sure whether I listened to the original or the remastered, but if I did listen to the remastered but not the original, I will be sure to find the original and see if my opinion changes

If it was on a streaming service it was a remaster (even if it doesn't say so). Its kinda like the original Star Wars movies where they want to pretend the original doesn't exist lol

I could care less about the 'grunge' angle, but comparing Cobain's songwriting to your average soundcloud rapper just feels so wrong to me.

Listen to Superunknown. It is by leaps and bounds the best thing to come out of grunge.

you got it backwards. Soundcloud rappers want to be nirvana. This was punk for people that didnt even fit in with punks
