Pretty new to Manchester Orchestra, only last year I became aware of them from the #2020 Touché Amore album but I’m aware they are indie folk/rock.

I’m a little divided on this one, I’ve tried every EQ and every speaker in the house - the acoustic, the bass, the drums, the vocals and the mood are all here but where are the electric guitars? The songs are literally screaming for them!

So the bass and drums are super present which make the perfect foundation and there ... read more

I love finding new world music on AOTY.

Safe to say I have zero point of reference for Galician folk music but I dig this a lot!

Opening two tracks are fantastic and destroy any other dance-punk album from #2021 except Citizen - that Citizen album deserves a lot more love if you want to count that but anyway these first two tracks easily exceed the most obvious counterparts in Royal Blood and DFA1979. This is so fucking niche.

Why’s it so enjoyable?

I think that the obvious musical rips are more forgivable due to their leaning into a fun and somewhat comedic direction full of simpsons references and an eclectic mix of stoner, doom and classic metal riffs that you can take as seriously as expected going by the title.

Is the album silly? Yes, in fact it’s downright stoopid but it makes the album fun.

With a shoegaze aesthetic Lonely The Brave go for a hit on ‘Bound’ with very #2000s pop-rock vocals and ‘Distant Light’ follows suit.

‘Bright Eyes’ goes totally #2000s and dials back the shoegaze aesthetic and ‘Chasing Knives’ drops the shoegaze vibe entirely and feels throwaway.

Acoustic title track is decent. ‘Your Heavy Heart’ is decent.

As the album progresses it feels like the vocals become more and more upfront and dominate ... read more

Ok this is a super short post-punk EP but it’s actually got a really great sound and the vocalist has a little something, they have energy.
