Fontaines D.C. - Skinty Fia
Starting out unmistakably Irish In ár gCroíthe go deo (Gaelic: In Our Hearts Forever) is like a Celtic vocal chant that is not only layered majestically with rich choral harmonies and arguably Grian Chatten’s most enchanting vocal to date, but it’s also masterfully arranged as it shifts and builds with clearly defined momentum and intensity with unanticipated and almost The Prodigy styled drum n’ bass breakbeats, the urgency and the emotion build in perfect ... read more

Ghost - Phantomime
On ‘Phantomime’ Ghost do what Ghost do best. And that’s cheezy 80s music but this time it’s covers. Simply 80s guitar covers that feel right at home with the rest of the Ghost catalogue.

Highlights: We Don’t Need Another Hero, Phantom Of The Opera.

The Smashing Pumpkins - ATUM - Act III
Just like modern day Red Hot Chili Peppers & Metallica, SP too could do with some heavy editing. And across the THREE parts of ATUM actually much moreso. Act III being the final and most listenable addition.

To say continuing the Mellon Collie concept 25+ years later in THREE parts was overly ambitious would be an understatement. The ATUM project for many being nothing more than a predictable disaster, and for the forever hopeful; a disappointment.

Act III opener ... read more

Metallica - 72 Seasons
After the most consistent group of lead singles I’ve heard from Metallica in the longest time I was persuaded by my own curiosity to have a listen - ‘72 Seasons’.

One thing that I noticed about the singles is that this old band of metal pioneers and elder statesmen came to play, they sound energised. But make no mistake this is not a metal album, it’s a rock album! Kin to the sounds and energy of the late 90s Load/Reload era which in my opinion has aged most graciously ... read more

The Interrupters - In The Wild
“I felt invisible but everyone was staring at me” croaks Aimee Interrupter on opener ‘Anything Was Better’ which in a perfect world would soundtrack some sort of ‘Freaks&Geeks’ inspired teen angst coming of age story. 10/10

‘As We Live’ sees Tim Armstrong from Rancid enter the fold “this is the time for love”.
While ‘Raised By Wolves’ has Aimee sounding equally every bit as grunge-queen as she does 80s pop-howler. ... read more

The Mountain Goats - Bleed Out
Somewhere between Weird Al, Weezer, The Waterboys, Presidents Of The USA, Dinosaur Jr. & Ben Folds.

On opener ‘Training Montage’ you’re welcomed in to a catchy bop but it’s the quirky extended jam at the end getting lost within itself that really sells me on this one.
While ‘Mark On You’ kind of just breezes by with it’s sweet backing vocals and joyous tambourine strokes.

‘Wage Wars Get Rich Die Handsome’ picks up the ear worm energy ... read more

Hey Music Nerd - following on from your well received recommendation for Brutus & doom/black gaze wondering if you have given Spotlight Alchemy for the Dead a go? It might interest you.
Hey Music Nerd, for my upcoming 700 follower special I wanted to do a list based some research on AOTY user's most listened to albums. All you need to do is send me a link to your account. If you don't have one, no worries. If you could tell me what is (probably) your top 10 most listened to albums that would great instead. Thanks for your time in advance!
thanks for the follow! I've been reading your reviews for a bit, love your work :)

Hey!! I made a list containing the highest user rated tracks on this site, whether they be singles or just regular tracks off an album. Feel free to check it out! :)

And if you know of any tracks rated 98 or higher with 100 people or more having rated it, then comment a recommendation. I think it would be interesting to find out which songs are the highest rated by users on this site.

Hi, I am making a community list and if you're interested in contributing I would appreciate your input. I have been interested to execute this research for a while so I hope to get as many responses as possible. You just have to answer a simple question: Do you use light mode or dark mode on the AOTY site? You can also give an explanation on why you use either one. Thanks a lot if you decide to answer!
Hey, I just finished my top 10 album list for 2022. Check it out if you're interested and let me know what you think
