Mitski - Bury Me at Makeout Creek

'First Love/Late Spring' remains my favorite Mitski song. I love the fuzz of this album; it feels both comforting and unsettling at the same time. While maybe not as forward-thinking as future projects, Bury Me is the Mitski album I return to the most. She always has a knack for catchy melodies and interesting lyrics, but the edges of this album feel frayed. There is an emotional rawness matched with imperfect production that I hope she can incorporate into future projects. While I am happy for Mitski's glow up, I do miss some of her rougher aspirations that she presented on this earlier record. This album feels like peeking into someone's sketchpad: the material is beautiful, but there is a sense of process and testing that I think is very enjoyable.
