Kanye goes full on pop star with Graduation, and it served him well with one of his most successful and praised albums to date.
Graduation expands on the soundscape presented in his first two albums, by introducing large synths and heavy drums to widen the range to a stadium type of sound, which is also notable with the large amount of big hits this project delivered. Big songs like "Stronger", "Homecoming", "Flashing Lights" and "Can't Tell Me Nothing" ... read more
Quadeca presents an other-worldly experience that goes over excellent vocally, instrumentally and most of all conceptually.
I wasn't very familiar to the style of music that I Didn't Mean To Haunt You is, only having heard a couple of Bon Iver tracks that are similar, but overall this album was a very new and intriguing first listen, and it only sounds better after each listen. I love the vulnerable, raw and awkward vocal tones that Quad uses through the album, it evokes so much emotion which ... read more
Future & Metro Boomin team up to create an album with amazing chemistry and features that add extra good flavour to the mix. I see this project becoming a trap classic in the future.
From listening to DS2 we all knew that this album would sound great, whereas Metro Boomins detailed and druggy production fits like peanut butter and jelly with Futures style of rapping, his voice and flow lands smoothly on the instrumentals. Compared to a bunch of earlier Future projects, WE DON'T TRUST YOU ... read more
The Latin Kings nails everything what makes their music entertaining on this iconic album.
Mitt Kvarter runs smooth from start to finish with very low amount of filler, no great beats are wasted, and many charismatic & catchy lines are flowning all over this project. Some highlights include "Skön Våg", "De E Knas", "Blend Dom" and "Ainaziz", but there are more. The drums were enhanced a lot on this album compared with their previous album, ... read more
I Skuggan Av Betongen sure was an interesting step for The Latin Kings after their debut project, keeping similar themes but not really evolving on them for the better.
The Latin Kings deliver a very lowkey album that keeps up with the conscious and emotional verses their fans are used to, but this projects doesn't consist of that many iconic and catchy lines. While not being having as much commercially success as their other projects, this project still has some great songs like "Borta ... read more
One of the most important and impactful albums to kickstart the Swedish rap scene, and it still sounds great today.
Välkommen Till Förorten gives the listener a great blend of songs that are both conscious and catchy, which was an active form of music in America at the time, but this was a whole new perspective that represented people in the poor Swedish suburbs. Some of the most memorable tracks from this project include "Snubben", "Kompisar från ... read more
Daft Punk shows the world on Discovery how many limits you can reach with house/dance music, by expanding the great soundscapes that they were touching upon their debut project Homework.
Discovery flows amazing from start to finish, with perfectly mixed french house songs that've aged better than any music from this era in the genre. It's hard to even top this album in its sound today, which tells us how far ahead of its time Discovery was. Daft punk reaches into completely new bags by ... read more
Donda 2 is not an official album in Kanyes discography, but it still exists, and it has some interesting ideas.
I'm not going to go too deep into detail on Donda 2. It has some instrumental ideas that could sound great if they're expanded upon in the future, but for now we only get to hear demo versions on this project. Kanyes talkpoints on this album are very focused on his emotions and situation about the divorce between him and Kim Kardashian, and how their family has been affected by it. ... read more
Creative and raw french house is exploited in a unique way on Daft Punks debut album Homework.
Despite being born in the late 90s, this album has aged like fine wine and still sounds better than most house music released today. Homework really follows the french house formula down to the core laced with sample flips, on songs like "Revolution 909", "Phoenix", "Around The World" or "High Fidelity" that is very notable. They also experiment with very weird ... read more
DS4EVER isn't the most refined Gunna album, but it sure has some bangers.
Nothing on this project isn't that much improved upon, but contains some of his catchiest songs in a while, those include "pushin P", "alotta cake", "too easy" and deluxe song "P Power". But obviously a Gunna album is gonna' come with filler tracks, and DS4EVER doesn't escape it. The whole project might not have the most notable performances all together but Gunnas constant flow is ... read more
This single is incredible, this is what every Kanye song should aspire to be, catchy lyrics from Kanye over a driving beat with an interesting sample choice, I just hope that it gets easier for people to actually find this masterpiece.
This album is horrible and should be avoided for anyone who actually has ears.
I give Cudi respect for composing this album in a very unique way, and deliver a ton of emotion through one of the hardest periods in his life. But that doesn't excuse the albums length, unfocused tracklist and just unlistenable songs in general. There are tracks like "Confused!" and the title track which are actually bearable, but the other 24 tracks are very hard to get through.
Kid Cudi really wanted ... read more
I legit thought this would be laughably bad, instead it was painfully bad and just pure boring to listen to. It didn't give me any emotion at all, it felt more like listening to an old subgenre being kicked to death.
The College Dropout will always stand as the best debut project in my books.
Kanye West was already solidified as a prolific producer back in the early 2000s, producing for many rappers, including a big part of Jay-Zs critically acclaimed album The Blueprint. And after Kanye dropped his debut album he wasn't only getting more respect as a producer, but also as a rapper. Kanye delivered a bunch of entertaining lyrics with a lot of personality, but he also had introspective, relatable and ... read more
? is more diverse than his first album 17, but way more inconsistent and spotty as a whole.
I might even put this album lower in my ranking but ? really tries to do too much and it fails. I gotta' give it credit for featuring his best song "infinity (888)" which is impressive from both Joey Bada$$ and X, the rest of this album is quite the mess. X uses some of the most bland and basic trap drums all through the project, and he even see him tries to balance a Spanish song in the ... read more
While X isn't complex as a writer compared with many other rappers, here on 17 he really knocks out a great performance that a lot of other rappers couldn't achieve.
17 is a 21 minute emo rap album with lofi intrumentals that creates a melancholy space. A majority of the lyrics are more representative of a diary rather than a rappers verse, because of the very direct indications and sad quotes rather than poems. But Jahsehs tone of voice and how he delivers his vocals actually works well with ... read more
Pusha T managed to deliver his greatest performance on DAYTONA with only a runtime of 21 minutes, which is an incredible achievement in hip hop and music in general.
The combination of Kanye Wests addicting sample heavy production and the lyrical performances from Pusha T is displayed here on DAYTONA in a perfected way. From "If You Know You Know" to "Infrared", every track hits you hard in the face with heavy coke rap lyrics, and Pusha Ts delivery always grabs your ... read more
EARL showcases the young lyrical genius Earl writing some of his most impressive bars over old Tyler beats that makes for a good listen.
It's actually insane how many great verses Earl has on his debut mixtape, the song "Earl" is the perfect example of what made Odd Future an interesting group, but especially what solidified Earl Sweatshirt as one of the best lyricists of modern hip hop. Although some of the lyrics are controversial, it's nothing I'm startled or offended by in any ... read more
A very memorable and classic project in the genre of Electro-hop/ electro-swing.
All nine tracks (excluding the Faidherbe Square with lyrics) brings out amazing parts of what makes Proleters music so intriguing, the uplifting and creative swing samples laced with amazing drums makes for addicting tracks like "April Showers", "Soul Key", "Back Home" and more. This album was also popularised by the amount of times these songs were used as background music in several ... read more
