The Orb - Moonbuilding 2703 AD

Unexpectedly strong comeback from duo in 2015.

This album showcases their best endlessly long tracks, with almost zero monotony that was a problem in the first 2 albums and with a stronger bias towards house music sounding.

Of course, 2 tracks stand out here. The most energetic and hypnotic "Moon Scapes" made in the best traditions of "Underworld" with panoramic beats, and the relaxing but cheerful downtempo "Moonbuilding".

I'm glad that this album is getting recognition 21 years later, after the hype that Pitchfork set for Fiona in 2020. This is truly her most energetic work; the shifts between the songs sometimes is like jumping from a snowdrift to a bathhouse and back.

Despite the fact that the album contains 2 of her greatest songs (Get Gone, Paper Bag) it happens to be my 4th favorite album in her catalogue.

It is amazing how strong the herd effect is even in such democratic countries as the USA where independence and individuality are elevated to a cult. When the scandals of the singer’s personal life became known, all music lovers who had previously been indifferent to his music considered it their duty to go to this site and deliberately understate all the group’s albums. This is so pathetic and ridiculous... I thought sheep only live in autocracies like Russia.

A brilliant guitar trip hop album, it could very well be in the electronic genre and not just pop. For example, electronics lovers should definitely appreciate Worthless and Honestly OK. By the way, the success of No Angel was unexpected for the producers because they didn't understand what to do next with her sad songs. And the song Thank You, which Eminem liked, is, fortunately, far from the best here.

It amazes me how this shameful, long-discredited NME gives this album 2.5 out of 5, but ... read more

CocoRosie - Grey Oceans

This album sounds something like if grown-up girls were riding on swings and walking around the amusement park of a destroyed city after the apocalypse. A gloomy "kiddy" album

The main reason the album was so poorly received was due to the devastating selection of singles. It was as if management deliberately chose the worst songs to promote the album. The only "Lemonade" was ok. Pseudo matching "The Moon Asked The Crow" and soft "R.I.P. Burn Face" ... read more
