original review (2/6/20): Besides SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK, Run is easily my favorite Joji song. It's very stylistically unique from everything he's done before, although some of his most notable hallmarks are still present. While, yes, Joji's instantly-recognizable crooning is still here on this track, the typically lo-fi, trippy, understated production reminiscent of the Chloe Burbank days is nowhere to be found. The fuzzy bedroom R&B of BALLADS 1 is also almost completely absent. No, no, Run is an entirely different beast that treads uncharted territory for this artist. This beautiful song is engulfed in thoroughly atmospheric psychedelia, complete with an amazing guitar solo that brings everything together perfectly. It's basically what happens when Sanctuary meets The Less I Know The Better, and it goes over better than you might expect based on that description. If you're part of the crowd who passed off Joji as a talentless Soundcloud sellout after In Tongues, I strongly urge you to give this tune a listen. I have a feeling you'll be more into it than any of his other material. (original score: 87)
