Asylum Lullabies is not a bad album, it just drags at certain points. The songs are solid, but ultimately blend together in a mesh that could be memorable if more diversity was added.
Songs such as these are not entirely strange within Darkwave or Post-Punk more generally. However, usually slower, reverb-heavy tracks work as a counterbalance to catchy singles. Vedurnan is easily one of the most atmospheric dungeon synth albums out there. The reverb Fogweaver uses, coats the songs in a sense of melancholy and nostalgia. Although the melodies are simple and repetitive, the reverb and slow pace make it a great album to doze off to, or picture the imagery summoned by its artwork and song titles. There simply could be no better tribute to the Earthsea novels.
Highly recommended for fans of dungeon synth, or ambient music in general.
