currently I'm listening to the rym top 100 albums, and this album obviously was one of them. after a few months of hating this album, going into it I thought "it can't be that bad". so many people have given this a very high score, and I must be wrong giving it such a low score, it's definitely not this bad. and after listening to it again I can say that it's actually worse than I thought. that's right, the score went from a 35 to a 30. and yeah, I know about the concept for this ... read more

yeah this was pretty boring. the only standout tracks were the singles, one of them being one of the best songs from 2019 (Never Really Over), and Daises is pretty good too. but other than that, it's just some standard generic pop. which is a shame because Katy's last album, Witness, was amazing. Smile is also a really bad song, probably my least favorite track. it sounds like Chained To The Rhythm but missing everything good about that track.

favorite tracks: Never Really Over, Daises, Teary ... read more

Grouper's discography has always been very consistent, even when she tries something new (like this album) it always has that distinct sound to it. this is a 36-minute long progressive drone song, and it's great. the last part of the song is what really makes this song so great, everything leading up to it has been very mysterious with her vocals, leading up to the ending which sounds like a field recording but with lots of bass and distortion. it sounds amazing, something I wish Grouper would ... read more

Queen

Taylor really does a good job giving off that winter atmosphere, it would be really cool listening to this album walking in a winter forest. the songs are very "indie", not something that I would see her doing but she did a great job of it. exile is my fav track, she's always been good with songs with features (even ME!) and this just further proves it. Bon Iver in this track is fantastic, and their voices together is very beautiful. the songwriting in this album is very nice ... read more

Animal Collective returns with a short EP, which is one of their best releases. While I do like their new releases a lot (Painting With, Tangerine Reef), I was scared that they were running out of ideas. Especially on Tangerine Reef, while I do get it was supposed to sound very minimalistic, it seemed like they were really running out of ideas. But, like with every new release from them, they went for a completely different sound on this EP. And this one had the perfect blend of their weird pop ... read more

an amazing mix of ambient and psychedelic folk. the reverb on this makes it so dreamy and beautiful, along with her vocals which really adds to the atmosphere. listening to this while falling asleep was an amazing experience, it makes you feel very empty and hollow. these songs are so simple and minimalistic, yet there's so many textures and sounds that all make it the masterpiece it is.

This album is so bad! I hated this album so much! And I still don't even hate it as much as I did when I heard it on iTunes… it's like the last album I had complete faith in was… Tupac's To Pimp A Butterfly.

But, while Kanye's previous album is mostly divisive among both fans and critics, To Pimp a Butterfly features one of the best and most complex narratives of modern hip-hop.

Kendrick Lamar's lyrics can be surprisingly philosophical and hypnotic at the same time. In many of ... read more

(DAY OF DRONE #10; FINALE!)

To end off Day of Drone, we have an amazing album by Windy & Carl. This was the first album I've heard from Windy & Carl, and it was an amazing introduction. For starters, the cover is amazing. It matches the warm, noisy, drone played in this album, even if it does feel a bit overused in some parts. Unlike the other noisy drone album (Love is a Stream), this one had a bit of post-rock influence on it. The last 2 tracks probably had the most post-rock ... read more

Witness. The album that you all probably forgot about, which is... understandable. This album wasn't nearly as popular as her other 3 mainstream albums, really the only single that got successful in the mainstream was Chained To the Rhythm with its radio play. Which is something that kinda makes me confused because of how great this record is? And it seemed like everyone hated it. Maybe it was because of 'pop' music not being liked too much in general, so people went into this album thinking it ... read more

(DAY OF DRONE #09)

This album is so much better than the other Stars of the Lid album. The problem I had with Per Aspera Ad Astra was it felt very uninspired, the album got very boring after a while but this album is the complete opposite. The first few tracks are very beautiful, the first one being my favourite. It's all the things I like about drone music, very warm and sad. The track doesn't last for too long, and I wish it did because the longer songs on this album are probably the worst ... read more

Probably one of the strangest albums I've ever heard this year. A person on Twitter sent me this album, and I was very intrigued by the... strange cover, so I decided to give it a listen. The first song is what sounds like a drone, is actually a one piano note stretched out for... 16 minutes. And on top of that, we have a rain recording, and while it does seem nice, it drags on for way too long. The drone can only be heard in about 45% of the song, and usually, when it's just field recordings ... read more

AOTY also knows as Album of the Year.org also known as Album of the Year Dot Org's musicians have a lot of different styles of music. I was really surprised of how well these songs all fit together in this compilation, yeah sure I'm not a big fan of meme rap so I didnt really like that section, but every song was memorable on this album! some of these artists I didn't even know made music, and those were probably some of my favorites.

songs ranked in order of when they appear on the ... read more

Once again along with Structures From Silence... this is not a drone album. And at least Structures From Silence had SOME drone elements to mark it as a subgenre, this... had no drone at all? Everyone go spam @notbuzzzila's shoutbox with hate comments! :)!!!

Anyways, this was pretty good! I loved the noisy/shoegazey elements in this album, it all sounded so nice. Although I don't really like most 'psychedelic rock' albums, I didn't mind this one very much. Sure, there were ... read more

(DAY OF DRONE #07)

On the 7th Day of Drone album, we have quite an interesting one. This album is supposed to sound like paintings, "the merging of colour and sound" as they call it, and I would say it does a pretty good job of that concept. While the songs can feel a bit bland, the concept is something to take note of while listening to this album. And the songs sounding bland is the only real problem I have with this album. Like the song Anchor States, Part 1 is literally just a ... read more

(DAY OF DRONE #06)

On our 6th Day of Drone album, we have an artist that I've never heard from before. Before listening to this album, I decided to look at the genres (something I usually do) and while they did seem interesting, they were kind of all over the place. Black Metal and Drone? So I was somewhat excited, and already with the first track, it sounds amazing. The guitar with the drone sounds so beautiful and, sad. And this album is pretty sad for the most part, but then we have songs ... read more

(DAY OF DRONE #05)

On today's Day of Drone installment, we have the debut album from electroacoustic ambient musician Tim Hecker. The album consists of a lot of 2 part songs, with the occasional part 3 or just a separate song. I was a bit worried going into this album because of the length, usually with albums over 50 minutes I tend to avoid, but the length on this album didn't bother me... at all. Because it was that good. This album is extremely well-textured with all the field recordings, ... read more

This... isn't drone. At all. I mean, maybe the last track? But other than that this is just a space ambient record. Why is this even on (DAY OF DRONE)? Are we even doing (DAY OF DRONE) anymore with this album?

(DAY OF SPACE AMBIENT #01)

The 1980s had some of the best ambient music. Wave Notation 1: Music for Nine Post Cards, Still Way (Wave Notation 2), Apollo, Glassworks, all some of my all-time favourite albums. And this is definitely one of them. Right on the first ... read more
