Danny Brown - uknowhatimsayin¿

The new Danny Brown album is great. Sure, it isn't the best work by him, and there are a couple of weak points on here, but all in all a pretty good album. This album is him trying to approach a more funkier old-school hip hop sound. The album kicks off with 'Change Up' which is a very smooth and relaxing song. It's so weird that this is Danny Brown who is rapping, because about 3 years he made one of the craziest and most absurd albums of the 2010's: Atrocity Exhibition. The next song is the aesthetically pleasing 'Theme Song' which is another fairly calm song, has a lot of good production on this song, and the samples are absolutely stellar on this song. This song reminds me of a lot of songs off of cLOUDDEAD by cLOUDDEAD and The No Music of Aiffs by Themselves, some of my all-time favorite albums. The 3rd song 'Dirty Laundry' is one of my favorite songs on the album. About a month ago, I thought this song was pretty mediocre, now, I'm playing this song on repeat. I think one of the reasons this song turned me off is because of the strange beat, and I think that is strange because now it is one of the reasons I love this song so much. '3 Tearz' is probably one of the weakest points on the album, some of the reasons are is that it is repetitive, the lyrics, and RTJ are on this song (I don't really like RTJ, don't kill me). The only good factor about this song is the beat, and the beat isn't like great or anything. 'Belly of the Beast' is so fucking creepy and eerie. Obongjayar has one of the most haunting features of 2019 and the beat and atmosphere just gives me goosebumps, though probably has the worst production out of all of the 11 songs on this album. 'Savage Nomad' is another pretty eerie song, it reminds me a little bit of 'Ain't it Funny' from Atrocity Exhibition to be honest. The laughing noises are one of the reasons why I think it sounds like that song, it's also extremely psychedelic, sounds like some lost Jimi Hendrix song. 'Best Life' hits hard, everything about this song is good: the lyrics, the beat, the samples. It's so good, probably the highest point on this entire album. This reminds me of lot of XXX and OLD, some of his older work basically. 'uknowhatimsayin?' features Obongjayar again, but this time the beat is more vibrant and cheery, which is pretty ironic since most of the lyric's content is pretty depressing. The beginning was horrible, but then when Danny, Obongjayar, and the vibrant and cheery beat came in, it all got better. 'Negro Spiritual' features JPEGMAFIA, who just under a month ago I gave a near perfect score to for his album: All My heroes are Cornballs. Guys, what happened? This sounds like dog-shit!. Peggy, why do you sound like Pharrell Willams? The beat is so horrible, the song is puzzling and mind-boggling and not in a good way, probably one of my least favorite Danny Brown songs ever! 'Shine' is a way better song than 'Negro Spiritual', the production is better, the beat, lyrics, vocals. Though why does this song sound like it came off BROCKHAMPTON's GINGER? Does anybody think that, anybody???? The final song 'Combat' is a very jazz influenced song, I'm impressed. This song is amazing. Why are so many of you hating on this? It makes me wonder what's next for Danny? Will It be more jazz-infused, will Danny sound stick to THIS sound, or maybe something entirely different.
