Dan Deacon - Mystic Familiar

I didn’t really have a good idea of what I was getting into with this album. I was not familiar with Dan’s previous work and I was only put onto this by the great ratings it was receiving, and I am happy I gave it a shot.

Deacon presents a cohesive, incredibly produced album that flows almost perfectly. Even with that, it offers several tracks that are awesome on their own. This album is, in my opinion, not far off from the best that Animal Collective (the band that I would assume this album is largely inspired by) has to offer. Some songs on here are already some of the best I’ve ever heard in this genre, mainly Become a Mountain and My Friend.

I will definitely be spending more time with Dan’s music and could definitely see this rating going up in the future. One of my favorites of the year so far.

8.4/10
