Viagra Boys - Welfare Jazz

Viagra boys attempt to change up the sound of post punk but they clearly have bitten off more than they can chew as they mess up any potential this record had. Rather than going for simple, hard hitting instrumentals, Viagra Boys attempt some interesting, more dynamic production. The main word in that sentence was 'attempt' because although they go for some admirable ideas, the execution simply isn't there. At times the instrumentals are really messy which make them almost unlistenable. The genre fusions are really odd too with the group attempting to fuse post punk with jazz and even country for some reason towards the back end of the record. The vocalist is really bad to put it bluntly. His weird screamy singing voice is so odd and really doesn't help the already disappointing production. Not to mention that the lyrics are borderline gimmicky and dumb.

Best tracks: 6 shooter, secret canine agent

Worst tracks: girls & boys, to the country, in spite of ourselves
