For the song itself, it’s great! Likely my favorite Metallica single they’ve released for their upcoming album. It’s much more than the Hardwired-sounding teaser they released about 4 days ago, since this actually feels distinct. To start off, the song is the longest of their singles, which may scare off some based on the reception of the previous song. Fear not, though, since this song has fantastic pacing and overall does good with its run time. To start off, the intro to the song is amazing, starting with an ominous riff that slowly builds and builds until it bursts into the speeding riff shown in the teaser. The verse follows the main riff, adding onto it with James Hetfield’s impeccable vocal performance, as usual. The chorus slightly changed the riff, allowing for a slower, groovier, and catchier chorus. Each chorus is followed with a solo by Kirk, and while the first one isn’t anything special in my book, the second one is probably the best solo that’s been on these 4 singles, it’s genuinely a really fun, quality solo.
So yeah, thanks Metallica for the birthday gift, and have a good day you guys! Will for sure be reviewing this when it comes out.
