blink-182 - NINE

That's it. I've had it.

Blink 182 are not a good band.

There is not a single record i've heard from this group that has 'wowed' me, or 'shaken me to my core', or hell, even a record that i've 'liked'. Every Blink 182 album i've heard even sounds too annoying, too boring or too stupid for me to really take them seriously or appreciate the performance. All I've gotten from this is a bad Fall Out Boy on Crack vibe that I hate with every fiber of my being. It just sounds fucking awful! And, for some reason, they have gotten nothing but praise, whether it's for their refusal to care about lyrical content, or their impressive technical side (at lest with Travis Barkers drumming). This band has gotten nothing but praise for seemingling no reason. So, this album was gonna prove to me that this band was worth something, anything!

And low and behold, it isn't. This is some of the most boring, stale, forgettable, bad and dated beyond comprehension.

The hazy, trap grunge influenced production is annoying for sure, and the annoying and straight out bad vocal melodies only compliments the atrocities made on this album. It's an album that sounds like it's trying to force it's rebellious and angsty 'we are punk' mentality down my throat, and it only makes the stinkyness of Blink 182 stand out even more. Nothing on this album really clicks into place in the way that Blink 182 wanted to, with the music feeling confused, overtly dramatic and just a slog to get through. This is one of the hardest reviews I've had to write because the only word I can say here is: boring. It's boring, it's bland, it's dated and I've heard it a million times before.

...Seriously, I can't say much then that. I suppose that the band is trying to experiment with more hip hop and modern Soundcloud stylings (aka make money) but it just comes off as too trendy and pretty unfailingly 'forced sad', especially when compared to some of the more interesting pop/hip hop acts of this year alone. It's all feels like filler and stuck in the past, which is pretty funny when you consider how much they are PANDERING to the Soundcloud crowd, with tracks that sound literally exactly the same as Post Malone or Lil Peep songs, like the track I Really Wish I Hated You.

I'll give the band some credit: the lyrical content seems as if like the band are at lest TRYING to be a little more mature and interesting. There is this theme of 'depression' and 'paranoia' that the modern day life brings that is more then relatable, but it never feels organic or interesting...or even necessary! Look, if the guys at Blink are depressed and anxious about their lives, then that's completely fine to talk about. Because of coarse it is! My problem is that it feels as if they are singing about these topics because it's trendy and 'in' at the moment, not because of their turmoil that they have gone through. Most of these songs are just the same 'heartbroken' pop-punk ballads the group is known for, just filtered a depressing and draining coffee filter that the band are presenting as 'experimental' and 'different', when it's different for all the WRONG REASONS. There are some moments that it works, but never full tracks: just moments. Just blips. Legitimately the most memorable thing about this album is the cover which is ALSO trash.

There really is nothing for me to talk about here. What else more do you want from me? I got nothing!

Look, if the 90s clique was pop punk, the 00s clique was glossy 'perfect' digital pop songs, then this falls pretty nicely into the 2010s clique: pandering the the 'I have Depression' crowd that Post Malone and Lil Peep headlined, but with none of the danger, none of the risks and more of the bland, boring, repetitive song structures that have made Blink 182 such a slog to get through. They literally named one of their tracks 'On Some Emo Shit' like they are 'hip' with the kids, and are having kids Fortnite dance to their songs in their music videos. These people are 40. It's just so boring, played out, unexciting and sad to see. Please, can someone explain to me what it is with people and Blink 182?

Favorite Jams: uh.....Happy Days....Generational Divide....Black Rain....yep that's about it....Hungover You? Maybe?

Lest Favorite: I Really Wish I Hated You

Their self-titled record makes an attempt at being experimental and that’s their best record in my opinion; I like how dark it is compared to their others.
But i see where you’re coming from here.

Contemporary blink-182 is that old dog that needs to be put down but the 30-year-olds who still go to Warped TOur refuse to let it die.

If you've hated every Blink 182 album shouldn't you at some point stop listening to their albums? By now you should have realised you just don't like their sound.
