AOTY 2019

hype forecast: 2019

La Dispute - Panorama
82
There are some grade A+ spoken word post-hardcore cuts on here that really pulls you toward it's overwhelming soundscape, even when your expectations are somewhat on par with their sophomore release.

KEY TRACKS: RHODONITE & GRIEF - ROSE QUARTZ - FULTON STREET I/II
American Football - American Football
64
Praise be our beloved emo dads for realizing that their trademark sound is already getting tad dull after one dreary release. While it doesn't exactly reach the towering heights they put for themselves, they creatively worked up a dreamier texture for their craft and it churns our gorgeously, despite a couple of shortcomings.

KEY TRACKS: Silhouettes - Every Wave To Ever Rise
Swans - What Is This?

Little Simz - GREY Area
80
The first inherently great hip-hop record to come out this year. Little Simz has literally sharpened every single facet to her artistic arsenal & dropped a record to keep watch on your 2019 radar, all hip-hop heads alike.

KEY TRACKS: Venom - Boss - Wounds
Anderson .Paak - Ventura
84
Shoot me in the crotch if I haven't said this enough: YES LAWWWWWWWD

.Paak, you slick bastard. It's only been a year since he's released Oxnard, which was this grandiose R&B ghetto rap odessey. It's been often criticized for it's tendency to overproduce, which personally I call bullshit. Tho It's not as grand as it's twin or sweet & soulful as Malibu. While mainly leaning towards organic instrumentation, it's a whole world of it own.

KEY TRACKS: Make It Better - Chosen One - King James - Come Home
Flume - Hi This Is Flume
79
Now more bold than ever, the material on here is somewhat even more hard-hitting & surprisingly unconventional, ultimately leaning towards that ultra futuristic deconstructed bass format that really brings the gleaming ambition out of his work.

KEY TRACKS: How To Build A Relationship - Ecdysis - Is It Cold In The Water (Remix)
Modest Mouse - Poison The Well
76
Well. This track still slaps in rotation, but I have to admit that Issac's songwriting on here is just Humanz level of standard defying.
Lizzo - Cuz I Love You
75
This overwhelming, empowered big dick energy inspires the shit out of me. Although it's a little too LOUD & filled with billboard troupes, Lizzo's voice & striking charisma might as well shake the heavens purely based on that factor because it is fantastic.

KEY TRACKS: Juice - Tempo
