While it’s not as if Big Thief’s take on Indie Folk/Rock was ever particularly heavy in its production, they go for an even more minimalist approach on U.F.O.F. I was initially sad that some of the more powerful instrumentals from the proceeding records wouldn’t be present, but the trade off is that Adrianne Lenker’s beautiful vocals become even more front and center on this LP. From start to (an admittedly slightly weak) finish this is a gorgeous project with masterful storytelling and instruments that exist only to compliment Lenker’s singing, rather than trying to outshine it. While the last track didn’t leave much of an impression, everything else was absolutely wonderful.
