The first time where Rocky doesn't wear his influences on his sleeve, but also the first time (within his career timeline) where he kinda failed to meet expectations...

The lack of a somewhat tight formula brought up a good amount of problems...while there are qualities to it like Rocky tackling more substantial topics with more intricate lyricism, the album experience gets filled with bad transitioning (especially notable: killing the whole momentum of the first two, actually very strong ... read more

His most commercial effort?...yes, easy to say...

Is it a bad thing?...in all honesty, no...and I don't get most of the listeners who say that this album isn't really good

Rocky's debut album is still his best project to me...it adds commercial aspects to the product which enhance the quality in most cases; Rocky also tightened his flows, rhyme schemes and also his content (even tho it still doesn't really matter all that much)...

The section from Pain to Wild For The Night is the only real ... read more

Rocky's notorious first project served as the major culture shock within New York due to being influenced by odd sources for that area...

Back in the days I felt like this is a huge middle finger towards the conventions of NYC-rap; it never really sticked because of the dull "style over substance"-philosophy which I never was a fan of (and I'm actually still not huge on it...like, you need to have a really appealing style or it just doesn't work), but it surprisingly clicked...at ... read more

I would lie if I rate it higher, but it's a decent project, Knxcke...

Lol what's up with the people who hype this thing?...it's boring af and gets grating when he sings (with or without autotune)...

Toro y Moi's new album is almost exciting compared to this...

Moses Sumney is a talented guy, but I never thought that he really delivered on anything he dropped...

As pleasant as the instrumentation on this album can be, the songs do not really add up to a big, memorable picture at the end...most of the time it falls short and ends up as music for the background...

Maybe I need to relisten even more...

Toro y Moi himself, vocal-wise, is so unessential to his own project that it's sad...

The production is at the beginning of the album quite charming, but gains a stale and boring character pretty quickly...

Forgettable...

Not only a strong album by Blake, but also a really interesting effort since it questions my intention when it comes to listening to him...it's not the Blake who puts you in a mood of melancholy and evokes pure emotions out of the surrounding silence...there's a clearer focus on his person...

Transitions aren't necessarily easy, but James came with a share amount of accessibility (without changing his style on a fundamental basis) in Assume Form which leads you through it...

I imagine seeing ... read more

Had hopes for it and thought that it would be a nice side project, but not with this production...you can create way more out of this style, but most of Tobacco's resulting instrumentals almost competed with the gross album cover...

Aesop Rock was actually really solid, but also a bit formulaic at points...but still: he isn't the problem here

It's like Cox didn't even want that you understand him and the artistic directions he explored within this album...

I like what's going on here, but can't really deny that the confusion got me...

"I'm surprised that people defend this album... If I don't appreciate the duality of their music, then I wouldn't give Evermore a really positive score... And for some clarification: I don't necessarily want them to only make straight bangers (I actually don't care for their random banger tapes; they're boring af tbh), but they sacrificed almost everything good about them for an album with a style they've already executed way better in the past with one half of Evermore "

"As much as I love SRS, I totally get you (I mean, I also made fun of it's identity; a random, half assed lo-fi snippet tape)... Do think that this sound was a stylistic choice (so not only because of laziness), but wouldn't claim that Earl's train of thought was very deep at the time he decided for that... It's kinda stupid when people don't get if someone dislikes such an polarizing project..."
