Gorillaz - The Mountain
95

I was lucky enough to hear them play these songs live in LA last weekend, and now after giving it a proper listen - it's clear this is Gorillaz in their prime. They've reached the top of the mountain.

Magdalena Bay - Unoriginal / Black-Eyed Susan Climb
96

Like the double singles before, this is totally unlike anything they've ever released before. They go in a more alt-rock direction this time, and it feels effortless as we've come to expect from them. Another incredible couple of tracks, and I want to give a shout out to the lyrics which are really interesting on both! Black-Eyed Susan Climb is undoubtedly one of my favorite tracks they've ever released.

Magdalena Bay - Human Happens / Paint Me a Picture

from the first listen of imaginal disk i felt a kind of excitement i’d never experienced with music before. it stirred genuinely new feelings. it was clear that i was experiencing something special here, something new. this was music of the future, right here in my ears: the perfect blend of different genres and influences colliding to create a sound that was truly unique. i had been diskinserted.

this is the same kind of excitement i feel when listening to second sleep/star eyes, and ... read more

Tame Impala - End Of Summer

it's fine... doesn't feel innovative or unique in the way a lot of his past new stuff has, even if it was different.

Radiohead - Let Down

we are so unbearably disconnected from the world that surrounds us. time passes by, things happen outside of our control. you can’t help but feel like the world around you was crafted by the brilliant minds of others while you hang around, hysterical and useless. are you taking advantage of the life that was given to you? do you feel like you’ll never be enough to make your dent in the universe? what does it even mean to “change the world”, and why is it something we ... read more

“how do you take something completely natural, that will eventually transfer to the listener, but not just settle for that initial feeling. how do you go to an imaginary landscape instead?” - victoria legrand

throughout human history, we’ve looked up at the stars and defined constellations to support our beliefs, experiences, and mythology. different cultures found patterns to provide meaningful insights into who we are as people. it’s difficult to not look up to the ... read more

It’s really good, but also kind of boring? Maybe I need to listen a few more times, but this didn’t really click for me, even though I feel like the music is objectively good.

I can’t explain it, but there’s some energy missing on all of their records.

Glass Animals - Pools

pools is one of my favourite songs of all time

Glass Animals - I Love You So F***ing Much

i don’t care, i love this album!
while yes, it continues to veer in more of a pop direction, i honestly don’t mind because the production (as expected from dave) is absolutely stellar. this album feels like it actually achieves what dreamland wanted to.
i wasn’t so sure what to expect from a so called “space album of love songs”, and was honestly quite skeptical from the first single “creatures in heaven”, but after listening to the project in full, i ... read more

Remi Wolf - Big Ideas

It’s the way you can tell she is so confidently being herself throughout this whole project that makes it so good. Remi is singlehandedly making pop music fun and interesting again.

Almost every song hits insanely hard and does just what it needs to in the context of the album, however none come close to the absolutely majestic build up and cathartic release of Prescription (one of the best, most underrated songs released in the past few years) which I wish was on this album.

Glass Animals - A Tear in Space (Airlock)

oh it's so crisp after only listening to my live recording from sydney for the past month lol.

this is way more exciting than creatures in heaven imo. there are small, almost zaba like flourishes in the production that give it that signature glass animals feel while still having a new spacey sound that fits with the vibe of this album. the lyrics, while not extremely deep, are definitely much more unique than creatures too.

excited for the album!

Glass Animals - Creatures in Heaven

It’s a pretty good song, yet it feels like a far cry from the quirky, and enticing band that once had me uncovering the lore behind unique characters in How to be a Human Being or immersed in the tropics of the zabajaba jungle.

I don’t like to compare new works from an artist to their previous, but I can’t help but feel something that makes Glass Animals.. well.. Glass Animals is missing here. The lyrics especially are just so bland, even though I’m sure they’re ... read more

Remi Wolf - Cinderella

I feel so grateful to have discovered Remi so early in her career. Everything she drops just keeps getting better, and better, and it’s fascinating to watch her progress as an artist. This sound suits her so well and I can’t wait to hear the album

Remi Wolf - Prescription

i can’t believe people are still sleeping on her when she’s releasing shit like this. this is perfection. my favourite song from her by far (extended cut). i’m so excited to see where she goes from here.

my bloody valentine - loveless
96

who knew fuzzy, heavily distorted guitars could pack that much emotion and feeling into one album? i don't even know why, it's really random, but this album makes me appreciate how even though we aren't perfect, it's kinda beautiful in itself how humans are always able to find beauty out of anything. it's just how this album makes me feel, it makes me appreciate the simple yet beautiful parts of life. and the fact that it might be different for anyone who listens makes it even more special. ... read more

Beach House - Become

I was lucky enough to get a vinyl and I’ve only listened through twice but initial impressions are very good. It’s pretty clear what they meant by scuzzy and spacious. I think Holiday House and Become sound like they could’ve been on OTM and are very welcome here. American Daughter and Devils Pool are top tier Beach House songs. Black Magic is interesting and I need more time to sit on this one I think.

Radiohead - Amnesiac

while kid a is a better album experience as a whole this has better songs and greater highs. and it’s a fact. it has pyramid song and life in a glasshouse.. like??

edit; no i changed my mind but i still adore this album

Gorillaz - Cracker Island

First listen impressions (may change over time):

I enjoyed this honestly! Doesn't feel as experimental as other Gorillaz projects, but everything on here was high quality music that was enjoyable to listen to. Maybe their best since Plastic Beach, but still miles away from reaching the heights of Demon Days and PB. I know it's bad to compare releases but every part of those albums felt so perfectly calculated in a way that is yet to be recreated by Gorillaz.

While saying this Silent Running ... read more

the sounds in this album are just dripping with emotion, sadness, beauty. idk how to explain it. the music tells the story just as well as the lyrics do.

Still Woozy - If This Isn't Nice, I Don't Know What Is
65

I'm so sad about this. There was so so much potential with this album and I was really excited for it. His EPs were great examples of how he could make great SONGS but this was his chance to show he could do the same but as an album. It turns out making good songs ≠ good albums because while this album has some great songs it has very little replay value as an album. Eg. I don't see myself ever getting out the vinyl of this album and playing it, it's all too samey, but I won't complain if ... read more
