EsDeeKid - Rebel
74

EsDeeKid’s debut mixtape is getting a lot of attention and praise right now, and he is slowly becoming a mainstream name because of it. After listening, I mostly understand why. His flows are infectious, the production is hard hitting and slightly unconventional, but still accessible enough to where it will not deter the average casual trap fan. Not every track hits for me personally, and I think it is a little short, and in full, feels more like an EP than a mixtape, but the highlights ... read more

miffle - goodbye, world!

Quite easily the best late night listen of the year. This album is simple and sometimes repetitive, but this produces a beautiful atmosphere perfect for thinking and relaxing. Dedicated to his friend who passed away in 2023, much of the album feels very sentimental and somber as well. My only real criticisms is that towards the end, the songs do maybe sound a little too similar, and I think some more instrumental variety for miffle in the future would do him good. But overall, a very beautiful ... read more

De La Soul - Cabin In The Sky
80

Legendary hip-hop group De La Soul’s return to music is here! Nearly 40 years after their classic album, 3 Feet High & Rising, the group is surprisingly still very solid. The production on this record is actually exceptionally beautiful, and the writing is often very personal or introspective, yet remains fun and mostly lighthearted. The biggest selling point for me, however, is the immaculate feature list, including Nas, Black Thought, Q-Tip, Common, and Slick Rick, not to mention ... read more

Oneohtrix Point Never - Tranquilizer

O.P.N. has for a long time been one of the most creative producers in the electronic music scene. From producing numerous songs for The Weeknd and Caroline Polacheck, to basically creating the subgenre of vaporwave, he’s incredibly influential, yet often overlooked. On this latest record, he comes with the approach of glitchy, synth-drowned, and soft ambient music. Much of the songs bring to mind the early work of Aphex Twin, as well as Tim Hecker. This makes for a very relaxing and ... read more

Allie X - Happiness Is Going To Get You
64

Not quite as charismatic or cerebral as her best work

Armand Hammer - Mercy
60

Like many sequels, Mercy is certainly enjoyable, but it doesn’t stand on its own very well compared to the original

Danny Brown - Stardust
80

It never stops switching up on you

ROSALÍA - LUX
88

Unbelievably ambitious and cathartic, as well as a perfect definition of maximalism in modern pop music

Big L - Harlem's Finest: Return Of The King
54

About as good as its gonna get for posthumous albums made this long after the artist’s death

Anna von Hausswolff - ICONOCLASTS
74

Insanely creative, but at times boring

Clover-Lynn - Gothic Mountain Bluegrass
84

Clover-Lynn comes out the gate with some entrancing and shadowy bluegrass on their debut EP

Westside Gunn - HEELS HAVE EYES 3
60

Bro speed ran an album trilogy

Rochelle Jordan - Through The Wall
80

Some of the best house music this decade reside on this record)

Hayden Pedigo - In the Earth Again
80

A pretty insane detour for both parties involved, the yields quite a few great ideas, but also some not so great ideas

Mon Laferte - FEMME FATALE
88

“Well damn”-me after like almost every song

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - "NO TITLE AS OF 13 FEBRUARY 2024 28,340 DEAD"
98

With everything that’s happened in the year since this album was released, it’s only aged better, but that’s not a good thing.

ian - 2005
20

ian is either rapping over some of the worst hip hop production of the entire year under the veil of being “experimental”, or he is making trap music so generic and unoriginal you can literally pinpoint what specific rappers and songs he’s ripping off

Machine Girl - PsychoWarrior: MG Ultra X
80

Machine Girl’s once best album now has a B side that’s even better than the original

Daniel Caesar - Son Of Spergy
74

Daniel Caesar’s utilization of Gospel influences makes for some of his most beautiful songs to date

Adam Green - Falling Around
60

Not Adam’s best batch of songs, but by no means bad
