Literally one song in and I could tell this album would be something special. And it kept up in quality. It's like if Tame Impala, Fleet Foxes, Elliott Smith, and a jazz band had a baby, with all of the polish of a major artist production, from a bunch of (at least, from what I can gather) nobodies. I had never heard of them until I saw their album appear on my AOTY front page as a user-score based Must Hear album. This is what I think of when I think of the best of alternative/indie, ... read more
Yeah, uh... best mandolin-focused folk song I've ever heard. This is one of the only folk tracks I know that can overtake any Iron & Wine song.
All jokes aside, this song has really grown on me since first listen in an ironic sense. I get a lot of satirical enjoyment from how godawful it sounds, and it's a fun club banger to boot.
Just as great as the last one.
Minus points for The Only Thing They Fear is You.
Fuck Chad Mossholder for fucking up the mix for the soundtrack release, and fuck Bethesda and id Software for fucking Mick Gordon over.
The pinnacle of video game soundtracks, and the best I've ever seen from Mick Gordon.
Holy mother of Lucifer, this album is trash. From beats that sound like they were produced on GarageBand to lyricism equivalent of what I could do if I speedballed and drank myself into a stupor, the DEMONDICE EP fails on all fronts. DEMONDICE's obsession with Japanese culture and insistence on putting Japanese words into her lyrics (especially when they don't flow naturally) makes no sense for the album. The seemingly random political statements don't fair any better, and the ... read more
Keasbey Nights is one of the best ska punk albums I've personally heard. The sound is raw, emotional, and feels like it came from a group of friends messing around in a garage. This feel is of great benefit to the album, as garage band fits well with a ska punk style sound. Some people may not like how underproduced the album is, but I personally believe it works for the album.
Not on my personal list of must-listens, but if you have the time, check out a few of the songs.
What is there to say that hasn't been said already? DAMN. is a 2017 Pulitzer Prize-winning album that absolutely deserved it. It is a masterclass in story telling and is the album that really introduced me to Kendrick Lamar's style of musical composition and writing. This album is at the top of my personal list of must-listen albums.
Arguably the best album put out by Iron & Wine, Our Endless Numbered Days holds up very well as an indie folk project. Beam's smooth and intimate, whisper-y voice fits perfectly with the overall sound of the album. Each song has something that sets it apart from the rest of the songs on the album. The two (as I call them) "descending melody" tracks (Naked As We Came and Each Coming Night) sound similar on first listen, but upon further listens, each song has its own unique ... read more
