I listened to the tracks included on the 2001 CD Edition and the 1989 CD Red Cover Edition.

These recordings from 1948, 1951 and 1952 are among the finest of Bags' early discography, and arguably the best you will find this early on in the 50s. Working with the Thelonious Monk Quintet and then The Modern Jazz Quartet (+ Lou Donaldson) for the '52 sessions, this collection features some of the 50s' most talented artists, and it is a shame it flies under the radar of so many jazz fans.

Caps lock song titles should be made illegal by every country that has people with vocal chords.
Pettiness aside, The Lumineers have seemingly not moved past the terribly boring folk pop that launched their careers in 2012, which is not a surprise, but artists so single-minded and stuck in their lane usually do not start making more exciting music ten years later. In fact, The Lumineers and others like them have a real tendency to do the exact opposite. Long story short, they do not break that ... read more

The Yard Act debut has arrived and it is... exactly what was expected. Although making good on expectations is not a bad thing, and this first record comes with its fair share of quality, there is even more value to going above and beyond, which Yard Act does not do on "The Overload". It is fun, catchy and well-performed, but lacks a ten-minute epic that shows the band's ability to write up an interesting song structure and a long-lasting narrative. Right now, we can look forward to ... read more

When you listen to as much music as I do, it actually moves you to tears when you hear your next 10. You will listen to it again and again, trying to pinpoint why you love it so much, whether it is really a 10, what it means to you, how it works in its historical context (location and release date). Over time, it becomes so special that you are consistently lost for words when you attempt to explain it to yourself or others, and all it ends up being is that perfect thing you love so much.

Die Wilde Jagd ("The Wild Hunt") goes entirely ambient on "Atem" ("Breath"), a 45-minute long journey through the thrilling depths of the void above our heads.

Space Oddity aside, Bowie's second release is not the massive step up that some people consider it to be. One could even argue that his debut had a little bit more character, whereas this ends up being a pretty basic 60s release, which had to be rushed out due to the title track's sudden massive success. We are still a long way from the tales of Ziggy Stardust, but this was a decent bit of output to put Bowie on the map, and it deserves to be recognised as such.

I find most of the music that I listen to through RYM, which has a significantly larger catalog than AOTY.
Often times, I will search a specific genre that I would like to listen to more of, such as "EAI"
Then, I go through the chart and find ones that are the most interesting to me. I also usually look at friend ratings to see if those whose opinions matter to me enjoy the album.
Alternatively, you can use lists on RYM. Some user made lists can be very useful.
I've been planning on making a guide to getting into more experimental music for a while, maybe I will take this as a sign

Hi! I hope you're having a great christmas if you celebrate it ❤️! I just made a top 25 list of albums of the year and if you're interest you can check it out here: https://www.albumoftheyear.org/user/gersonaoty/list/61814/top-25-albums-of-2021/

- Library are my vinyls.
- Trying to do both recent and ancient music.

I round ratings off because it leaves a bit of margin. After all, opinions change depending on mood, setting, experience and taste.

2022 will be a great year for music and my relationship with it. That's a promise. So stick around and see what I listen to throughout the year! I will be trying to reach 1000 + 200 reviews ratings this year.

Obviously, a work-in-progress list. There is a lot of beautiful Celtic music I am yet to rate or yet to hear. I will also be adding short reviews/descriptions. Stay tuned!
