Take notes, XXXTENTACION's label. This is how you actually respect a late artist's legacy, although I don't think that's your goal anyway. But onto the album itself.

As the follow up album to Swimming, Mac steers more in a soul direction with elements of soft rock, while still keeping his signature style and aesthetic, and in the process even delivers some of his best songs to date. I'd say this is even better than Swimming as it's more engaging throughout and the new sound palette just makes this even more enjoyable. The lyricism is very depressing and heartfelt, and it makes the album even harder to listen to at times considering the circumstances. It felt like a very therapeutic album for him. Listening to this feels like we didn't just lose a rapper, but a friend that we might not have known personally, but someone who people were glad to have around.

Overall, Mac's family, Jon Brion and everyone else who was behind finishing this album really did this album justice and fulfilled what Mac's vision might've been, treated it with proper respect and made a great sendoff to the life and career of one of the most unique personalities in hip hop. For the album itself, I think I still like Watching Movies a bit more for its very abstract and fun sound but this comes really close as it's got some incredible instrumentation and like I mentioned before, even contains some of Mac's best work yet.

favourite tracks: Blue World, Good News, Woods, Hands, Surf, That's On Me, I Can See, Complicated, Hand Me Downs
least favourite: Once A Day

Summary: Posthumous Releases Done Right

Edit: Changed my mind, this is my favourite Mac album
